The calipers are the same for both steel and CCB this time around, only difference is the actual rotor. So sounds like most people are just paying for a colored caliper and have no idea.
Will the CCB stop harder and faster...no. That is the most random thing I've read, people want to feel better about spending the money. On my GT3 the rotors after beating on them start pitting and will wear out quickly. This is sort of an expensive fix. Brakes are loud as could be around town, sure they look nice, but get them wet and when you have to mash the pedal and feel yourself not stopping it's not so nice of a feeling. On an M5 which is heavy and not purpose built for track use, the steels will do just fine with high temp fluid and better pads. Just swap from street to track pads and bed them in properly when switching back and forth. Nothing will stop "faster" just one will fade over the other, but properly setup steels will work just as good and in most cases much much better with proper pads. Can't swap to track pads with the ceramics. In the end I didn't order them for this car, same caliper for both applications means same pad surface area covering the rotor. And at .5" in front difference in rotor size doesn't equate to huge cooling benefit. So $9k for unsprung mass....spend it on better tires |

So what you're saying is that the CCB calipers are the same size as the steel? If that's true, can I swap out the carbon ceramic rotors for a set of steel rotors and pads if I want?

Like on my GT3 it's a funny feeling sometimes you think you're not braking hard enough to come to a stop but you sort of are. At which point you just have to step on the pedal really hard compared to normal driving Almost every single Porsche guy I've ever seen at the track swaps the CCB rotor out, keeps it at home and puts steels on for actual use |

Now I worry that even if I had to swap out the CCB calipers and rotors entirely for a BBK in the future, the master cylinder will not have the right pressure. I may have really screwed myself ordering the CCB in the interest of long service life for every day driving and low brake dust.

Just like the Porsche's swapping the rotors to steel is totally fine and there isn't anything holding it back even with different components |

Just bringing up this thread from the back burner. For those that are currently driving with the ceramic brakes, do you regret it? Squeals? Performance? Brake dust?
Recommend? Thanks |

I've had two F10 M5's with steel.
The brakes were fine for my needs but the brake dust was awful. I swapped out to Carbon Ceramic pads and have never looked back; no dust, noise or decrease in performance and .... $250. Ordered M5 Comp w/steels as well.

Honestly I regret getting the steel brakes. They make more noise than any of my ceramic optioned cars, grinding feel when coming to a stop plus I get the added benefit of brake dust. Ive already had the rotors and pads swapped but its the same thing.

I was very worried I had made the wrong decision before I took delivery, but without hesitation, I can say that the CCBs are the best brakes I've ever had. The bite when cold or hot is incredible, zero dust, and minimal noise. I get a slight high-pitched squeal at low speeds, only audible with the windows down, but resolves for a few days with a light rinse from the hose. They are velvety smooth at every speed. Also, they look incredible. I'll never have an M car without them again.

I also get the feeling alot of people outspokenly hate on them out of principle, rather than driving on them and legitimately having a problem with their performance.

In your opinion, are the CCB's $9K better than steel? I've gone back and forth and have actually driven both on the F10 M5 platform. My 19' F90 M5 Comp's in 111 status so still time to change.

From what I've gathered, the rotors will last indefinitely when street driven. Given how much I hate brake dust and worrying about rotor wear, combined with aesthetics, I think they are worth 9k. If I had planned on tracking the car, I would have bought steel.

I can only give my experience with my M3 with CCB.
I wish I never got them. BMW never gave enough clearance from the caliper to the wheel and these were notorious for damaging the inside of the 19" wheels when a small pebble got between the caliper and wheel. Happened often and there is a huge thread about it. I am not sure this applies to the M5. The real scary thing was wet performance. When driving on the highway in the rain, use the brakes often because if you need to suddenly stop you will have NO brakes if the rotors are wet. Many times I have been terrified when I tried to slow that car and there were no brakes for several seconds. Sure they were huge and powerful and low dust but not worth the cost. Damaged wheels and a safety issue.

I could see how the extremely tight clearance between the caliper and wheel could be a problem for the M5. I can't even get a wheel cleaning brush in there. I will admit, if a pebble finds its way in there at the right angle, shit's gonna go south really quickly. |
