The E46 CSL was not for the USA market, so that one is excluded here. But E86 M Coupes (1,815 units NA), E85 M Roadsters (3,041 NA market) are and will even be more desirable. The unicorn will be the E64 M6 Cabriolet with a 6-speed manual, a US/Canada market-only car which BMW M 378 units of the E64 M6 convertible (two of which were pre-production cars). The E63 M6 Coupe with a manual is even more scarce now with only 323 and that includes three pre-production cars. The legendary S85 V10 matched to a 6-speed manual with very few cars to go around will be highly desirable. There are more BMW M models that fit within this market, but work beckons! |

To the all M5/M6 GC current owners with manual, please hold on to them as long as you can for me. I will be in the market for them in the next five years if you could hold off that long, I'd be happy to take them off you hands then. Lol!
Really sad to see the M5/M6 manual breed dying like this. I fell in love with the manual through my ownership of E39/E46s and now F22. To me, driving a manual in a BMW is the only way to go! I guess I will begin my collection of manual BMWs from here on out.

Well, that is sad to me but not surprising given the low sales. Really, the M5 has become to big to appeal to most buyers who want manual transmissions. For example, the F80 is about the same size as the E39 M5.

Inevitable. The car's development was always with the M DKG transmission so that is the car they spend more time developing that particular transmission.
The manual was always an afterthought for the M5 E60 and M5 F10M. Hence Former BMW M CEO Gerhard Richter's comments on the manual E60 " Gentlemen its shit!" The new car according to those that have tested it works in complete symphony with the F90 so it is more adapted to the car for every conceivable use. Besides with a car like the M5 and indeed as an owner of the 30 Jahre edition. Simply setting into drive whilst leaving city traffic is far more comfortable than constantly rowing gears. As the consolation though the lower and entry M cars will still use manuals. Until customers tell us otherwise. The first BMW X3 M and X4M will not feature manuals as they are not that kind of vehicle that would use a manual. But the Z5 and Z5M will offer a manual as it is a sports car.

There is a good reason why MT isn't popular with F10. As long as they offer it on smaller M cars, things are good.

I've owned both (first a '14 ZCP DCT, currently '15 ZCP 6MT). DCT is the better all-around sports sedan for a host a reasons. Nevertheless, if I were ordering a '16 right now it would have three pedals.
I don't think anybody would argue that the F10 M5 is a better car with DCT. Having said that, the question of which is better for one person or another is purely subjective with no right or wrong answer. I am willing to sacrifice and accept the inferior manual transmission because I perceive it to be more fun and engaging for my personal desires. Furthermore, IMHO I think it's a long-term strategic error error by BMW to not offer a refined manual transmission in future M5s... BMW has become too focused on the bottom line with M line, trying to please too broad a swath of people. M-EVERYTHING! M1 through M-gazillion dilutes their brand value. Just my two cents as a loyal customer for the past 30 years (now I've made myself feel really old). |

I'm more upset that BMW is going 4WD for M cars than for them not offering manuals. At least the transmission won't affect the handling dynamics of the car.

I'm all for saving the manuals IF, and only if, they are any good. The F10 6MT was absolute sh*te, so what's the point really.
Anyone who debates the above statement, go drive a 981 GT4 or Spyder and report back |

Sounds about right sadly. Obviously less people drive manuals these so the market is slowly downsizing... In a decade or so manuals on new vehicles will become extinct

Would get a manual for nostalgic sake & being able to cruise it neutral a lot of times. Not surprised no more manuals for next gen M5/6

Manual is all about the enjoyment of the ride. It make a lot more sense to have a manual M5 than a track ready M2.

Saw this coming years ago. The M5 has lost something that I can't explain. The E46 M3 and E39 M5 were always my two favourite and purchasing my F80 M3 is like having both in one. 4 doors, a manual transmission, and a nuke of an engine. The M5 is just too big and its built to go fast in a straight line and that's it. RIP to the M5.
