2 nails in tires in 2 weeks

I'm on a bad streak, last week picked up a nail in my passenger rear tire that has 2,000 miles on it. Ended up being able to patch it. This morning picked one up in the other rear right near the sidewall. I'm going to end up replacing both rears with only 2k miles on them. Is this just bad luck?

Nope, it’s ultra sticky rubber. But unless one is tracking, no reason to replace, so long as it’s patched inside correctly, no reason the tire won’t last it’s regular lifetime.

One claim? A tire cost about 400-450. And if it’s not sidewall, which it usually isn’t, it can be patched. Tire and wheel insurance here in the northeast of the US is over two grand.

That's crackers - I paid 250 GBP for 2 years, that was tyre and alloy. I have already made one claim for 270 GBP

Ditto. 2 nails in 2 weeks in 2 different tires. I traced mine to a bored kid stuck at home and doing 'projects' in the garage. I hope I don't back over the skate board ramp.

Even damage very near the side wall can be repaired by specialist using vulcanising repair. Usually will need to leave the tyre a day or two as need to be placed in a jig and heat treated to keep the strength in the carcass. There are strict rules on size of damage that can be repaired and proximity to sidewall.
I picked up a screw in the OSR tyre in the first 20 miles avoiding a fookwit that did not stop at a give way and I had to drive into the detritus in the middle of the road. It is 1cm from the edge. Took it to the specialist repair shop and they said it's most likely fixable but depends on the size of the screw shaft as it cannot be seen without taking the tyre off.

Advice....

Get your tires off tirerack... They tend to be cheaper than most places and come with insurance on the tire. I went through 3 last year on my F80 and all covered, 2 nails, and one pothole bubble. In each case, not fixable due to location of damage and they replaced the tire at the same price of original purchase. You're out of the difference in actual tire cost and install.

Just have to send photos and adhere to the 2yr warranty on tires.

Damage to the rim, your on your own lol
