I hear you ..something you don't need on a daily ...
Occasionally nice when not overdone as you said

Where can I find the build date of my car? All of my other BMWs had it printed under the hood but I can't see it on the F90

It's at the risk of warranty though, which I wouldn't be able to risk just incase something went wrong with the car. I really hope BMW aren't getting rid of the pops and bangs from all pre july 2019 cars..

So was this confirmed to only be for EU cars?

Haven’t seen anyone with a July ‘19+ build in the US say if they have burbles.

Yes, it’s due to EU regulations for sound and emissions.

When you open the drivers door, it will be on the B pillar, the middle thick pillar, at the bottom.

The story as i see it is this. Earlier M5s without the OPFs sound way better than OPF equipped cars. Im sure 99% of Competition cars are fitted with OPFs, so therefore dont sound quite as good as early cars, they are not too bad, but not quite as good.
My Sept 19 Competition with OPFs sounds ok, and it will emit the loudest thundercrack on the odd occasion. This seems to be when the stars and moon align. It must be temp and fuel related, as no matter what i try, and how hard i try i cannot replicate it when i want. If this could be replicated at will, nobody would complain ever again.
Now, the facelift cars with new dash etc, does seem to have different exhaust related software, with far less pops and bangs, this is true. I dont know for sure if a software update to earlier cars, will bring the car into the same version as the new cars, therefore removing exhaust noise, if they did it to my car, and refused to sort it, they can have my keys, as i bought the car partly because of the noise it makes, or did make.
You could have have whatever you want noise wise, in whatever version of F90 M5 you own through remap etc, but then you blow the warranty, so you takes your choice etc. This is a hot topic on our local forum, with varying opinions etc. Good luck all

I think you have summed it up Simon, mine Feb 2019 build, makes some pops and bangs in lower gears when lifting off, thats about it. Not bothered as I have not driven it for weeks trouble is it's loosing so much per month just sitting there.

Just out of interest, how high do you have to rev before you lift off to get the pops and bangs in the lower gears? Especially on your old M5 as I bought mine just after and all I get are burbles

About 3K to 3.5K RPM that does it.

I think it’s all relative, as to how noisy you think, or want your car to be, in relation to what you are used to etc. If you are used to a relatively quiet car, then bought an M5, even with OPFs, you could think the car is loud and sporty enough. If you’ve come from an M4 Competition, pre OPF, fitted with an MPE, then the M5 is a bit of a disappointment.

LOL this was exactly me. Have a M4 Comp with MPE, went to test drive M5C and the salesman is like "sounds great right?".

No sounds pretty quiet

....Still will be getting one though.

DMS said they can remove the remap etc with their aftersales package and can also put it back on after the BMW service etc. To avoid any warranty issues. I think it’s a good shout to be fair.

Sigh. This still. I assure you, they cannot hide it if BMW want to find it. Flash it: risk taken—there's no undoing it.

Reputable manufacturers need to be wayyyy more transparent on this topic. Shame on you, DMS.

I have delt with that company, remapping my ********* and when the problems arose they removed the map, and it was still traced and I had to pay out for repairs, so don't believe it will not be recorded somewhere. DMS BULLSHITE

Oh right I thought you had the M5c done from DMS and had problems with it.
Does anyone have any experience with work from DMS on the M5c

Okay, so my new 2020 M5C is super quiet and has never once popped or crackled in its first 1000km.

I’m fairly emotionally attached to my warranty so ECU tuning’s out, but am considering exhaust options

Was wondering if anyone with a similarly quiet car has upgraded the exhaust (MP, Arka, Remus, etc.) and can share a video of the before/after? All videos out there are super heavy on pops and bangs - which I’m pretty sure won’t be the case here.

I have managed to enable pops and bangs on my 2020 model by changing the model to US (my car is 05.2020 non LCI EU ) . A local BMW workshop managed to flash the US file to ECU and the exhaust sound is lovely . The only problem is that the US model have an additional module in the tank , and because is missing the CEL is on . The car runs normal . I have ordered the parts and will keep you updated . Also , the US models don't have OPF so i will need to sort out what will be happening with the OPF .
