Has to be a goodwill replacement which was approved today by regional aftermarket sales Mgr. However, the service manager and I have a great long term relationship and he said he looked at 5 m5's on his lot and 3 of the 5 were similar to mine and only 2 closer to being right. So he will order the replacement wheel but knows how picky I am and said he's not going to keep ordering new wheels until they get a right one. So I'm here to see if this is a common issue and I should leave well enough alone or go ahead and take my chance for a 1 time replacement. Pics attached but it's not so easy to capture on camera. It doesn't necessarily feel as ripply as it looks but it does look off to me.
Same thing with mine ever since the beginning (owned the car for 2 years now) but seems to turn the wheels just fine so i wasn't gonna be one of those customers and annoy my dealer with it. I'm glad you told them something tho hopefully it goes up the chain so bmw is aware of if it's a defective thing they can fix.

had mine changed twice on my M6GC, I would suggest you inspect the new wheel prior to shop fitting as they will accept no liability later if its a good will, again this happend to me, the leather should be perfect, its a £100k + car after all

Absolutely normal....shocked your dealer replaced it.

It’s where your fingers squeeze tighter if you hold the wheel up there. For those whose wheels are smooth there, they either don’t grip the wheel there or do so lightly.

That should be at the rear of the wheel on all the leather bits, it's for grip.
Should not be at the front.

Yup your palms touch the front and the rears are for the fingers so to me there is an issue with a car that has a ribbed feeling on the front.

Mine looks like that also.

Similarly, my dashboard had the same issue. They warrantied my dashboard replacement, but told me to suck it up on the steering wheel. I'll see if I can hunt down the pics if anyone is interested

Mine was exactly the same as yours, and it was replaced without any issue - and not as a gesture of good will.

The only problem was the electrical harness is quite tricky to detach and then attach back without breaking it, so it would be a good idea for your dealer to get both parts in or you’ll be taking your car in twice like I had to do...
