I really like the look of the F80 M3s but I like 4wd, and I'm not the biggest fan of the interior (albeit it's similar to the M5). M5 has the addition of turning it into 2WD which is a plus point for me. |

Yeah, did not realize the RS5 was around the M5 price used. Would DEFINITELY take the M5 then.

Loving this one, just wish I could drive it more Make sure you drive both mate, Comp and none Comp as there both pretty different machines, not from power wise but more from ride handling, comp feels more planted but ride is a bit harder (not uncomfortably so imo) where as none comp ride is very luxurious, again imo |

Sorry just saw you replied - attached a few images, I have added splitters, rear spoiler, reflector deletes, front grill and exhaust tips. All DIY jobs and do make a little difference to the looks.
I'll try and dig out where I got the bits from.

Pretty easy decision. If you want a front wheel drive based car with its transverse engine and all the inherent problems of a front wheel drive car get the RS5. Obviously it has Quattro which can shift power but it is based on front wheel drive architecture..
I've never driven an Audi I liked as much as it's Bmw competitor. Steering way too light, doesn't feel buttoned down, understeer galore. RS5 is not a M5 competitor it's M3/M4 competitor. That being said I know you are price buying. In the USA Audi has the highest depreciation of all of them. I don't know specifically the RS5 but it's a much cheaper car so dollar wise it likely depreciates less RS5 again competes with M3/M4 which I actually like M3/M4 better than M5. That said comparing apples to apples I I wouldn't get any RS model over any M model. They just don't drive nor feel the same I'd get the M5 no doubt

Is it me or is the rear spoiler not on the edge of the boot? Don't know if I'm seeing things. Thanks for the pictures! |

I feel your pain in this decision. I'm in the UK and just about 2 years ago I got all excited and bought a brand new RS4 B9. I've got a real soft spot for Audi's and BMWs. I'd never had an M Car. I'd had an old RS6 a while ago (V10) but couldn't afford the bills at the time. So a good finance deal on an RS4 seemed great. Beautiful car, good build quality, nice noise and refinement level. And in Sonoma green with black trim and alloys it was a real head turner. But a year in things were not all rosey. Once the honeymoon period was over the car annoyed me. The infotainment was dated. The screen was annoying. The Audi app was proper crap. Then I went out in an S4 and realised that all the interior was the same. So I realised quickly that the upgrade to RS4 from S4 just wasn't very special. And soon the RS4 stopped feeling special and started to feel like a corner or two had been cut. And no way to make quick selections like the drive mode. And believe it or not, Audi still hasn't figured how to make a rear wiper cycle to the rest position when you turn off the ignition. So it just sat in the upright position. Are you joking. On a flagship car. So yes, it was annoying me. And then there were all the little issues I had with software. I do long miles in my cars, from airports back to home late at night, and the lack of refinement started to become more and more apparent on quiet roads with time to analyse and pick the car apart. Then I got the opportunity to trade up to a higher mileage M5 with a high spec (not a competition pack). Wow. Night and day. One moment a limousine, the next moment a Ferrari killer. Refinement, exclusivity, build quality, amazing interior finish, steering feel, steering wheel (I did like the flat bottom for a while, but it does grow old). They are a class apart. RS6 is a better comparison, as a class comparison, but the staggered release of these cars always means they are a tech jump apart from each other at launch. But pound for pound, or dollar for dollar, the M5 is much more car than an RS4 if the money is the same. Which for me it was about 4K difference. So near as damn it. And I can imagine it's the same for an RS5. I would also add this, sit in a base A5. Then the RS5. And so the same with a 5 series and then an M5. If a 5 series feels too big then the RS5 is the one for you, it if the 5 series size feels good, then look at how special an M5 feels compared to a bog standard 5 series and compare that jump in the RS5, and if the quality and exclusivity doesn't swing it then just take them on the highway for 20 mins. You soon see the difference. As the twisty canyon runs are rare.... so don't let the "smoking tire" reviews sway you. |

What exhaust tips are those? I like the stock exhaust (M Sport), but would like to upgrade the tips.

The M5 is a luxury car first and foremost. Don’t get it if you want a fun sports car. Get an M3/4 instead. You have to really want the luxury and daily drivability to justify an M5. And don’t chip it. 600HP and 10.9 1/4 mile is way more than you can use on public roads anyway. Not worth stressing the drivetrain for some extra power you can’t use. You’ll never be the fastest, so chasing that is fools gold, IMO.

Agreed. Some kind of tune or plug and play unit is needed. My take is this - with BMWs you always need to spend money to do a bunch of things to the car to address the deficiencies.
