Exclamation M5 F90 log of acknowledged/known issues

Do we have a sticked thread with list of common issues wich affects our cars? I mean basically those two categories:
  • issues addressed by BMW under warranty (incl. Safety Recalls & Technical Enhancements)
  • issues not covered by warranty (caused by prematurely worn etc.)

Something like we had for 1M Coupes here?

Could we start right here? I will insert every one suggested (and confirmed/verified) here.

Not a bad idea, I have attached a few for lads over the pond, in the UK I am pretty sure it is just the fuel pump one.

So nothing major or recurring with these cars huh? Every time I have become interested in a platform, it seems there has been something. My first “performance” car interest—the Audi B8 S5–had a carbon buildup issue that people kept talking about, and with my e92 M3, obviously the rod bearing issue. So nothing major or obviously recurring with the F90 M5 eh? I’ve been reading around on the forums for quite a bit now, but haven’t noticed anything clearly outstanding.

Nah - I think if you leave the car stock it's pretty bullet proof. Even with a piggy very few issues.

I agree... if these are like the F80s, these will be bulletproof in stock form. All the parts are high volume, upgraded-revisions, and are shared among many different models. Only issue with F90s is when you hit poles, curbs, and or road debris.

Low pressure fuel pump developed fault resulting in repetitive episodes of engine dying on startup. This involved a number of members here, threads are searchable.

Repaired under warranty, no further issue.

ya a sticky pretty much exists in every other platform, wish one existed here to make tracking it a bit easier. I am in the market for an M5 and been trying to find if it's safe to take a risk in buying a first year 2018 or if i should stick with a low mileage 2016 F10. I have an F15 so the interior of the F10 is identical in much regard so would like to have a change of scenery on the interior and i do like the F90 interior.

Any productions months i should avoid?

car now has 7800 miles and showing oil change needed in 200 miles which will be 8000 miles
car was ordered and came to dealer and car picked up immediately after arrival 9/2019

i believe the first oil change was supposed to be right after break in for the Ms? at least i remember that being a thing for the X5M...not that that has anything to do with your problem

Currently I experience clunky sound coming from front axle. Maybe arms. bushings or steering. My dealer/shop said they had several M5 F90 with identical symptoms but didnt found a solution yet.

This reminds me the clicking noise we ALL had on our F85 X5M ...
No solution found by the dealer, although luckily it has disappeared by itself on mine.

The 4-zone LCD panel always has lines in it.....quite a few people with F90 and G30 have had this issue.

There was ai forum talk about a improperly torqued and/or loose bolts on the stiffener plate on a few F90s involving the lower front end sub frame I think? (Not sure in exact structure location underneath). Caused a clunk and click sound with turn and suspension travel.

With a thread like this, it's good to know there are F90 M5 owners like me who have had absolutely nothing go wrong with their cars.

When pushing car (on tunes) I am aware of several cars (including m8s) that have blown their turbos and/or have bent a rod. All cars were on very aggressive turning (ie. Aggressive e30 tunes or JB4 custom maps paired with ECU tuning and meth injection). Depending on the year of manufacture, I believe the stock turbos are weak from
Factory and can run into issues with aggressive tuning and driving. Should be fine on on modest stage 1 and stage 2 tunes. But anything pushing the limits and say bye bye rod or turbo.
