My New Car, LOL

Hope you are all staying safe and healthy. Hopefully you'll get a chuckle out of this.

I got a new car this week. A 2018 BMW M5.

Thing is, I've owned it for 21 months.

I just hadn't figured out the Sport Plus settings.

Working from home and getting bored, I wound up on Youtube the other night and began watching reviews about our car.

I almost skipped over the part where the reviewer described the ability to change settings for engine, steering, etc, as well as pre-setting the M1 and M2 buttons. He then went on to gush about how good the transmission was, without the need for paddles.

Without the need for paddles? That's what I thought was mandatory whenever selecting M1 or M2.

I came back in here and started reviewing threads about peoples' various M1 & M2 settings. That night I went out to the car and totally redid everything in M1 and M2. No more paddles. And basically in M1, everything is now Sport Plus.

Well, the steering is a bit heavy but...it feels like a new car LOL.

And the SOUND (I have the sport exhaust)...after a few LOUD and crackly revs, my kids came running into the garage and asked me if something was wrong with the car. To which I grinned....nnnnnnope. Quite the opposite.

I went for a quick rip onto the highway and OMG.

Anyway...my flame suit and dunce-hat are on. Oh and I'm loving the new car.

Take care,
TS

One tip reviews often miss is how to change M1 & M2 settings on the fly. For example if steering is sport+ after pressing M1, simply change the steering setting with the console button and then do a long press on M1 to save the new setting. No need to go into iDrive menus.

I got my F90 in January 2020 and discovered the crackle and pops in the Sport Plus mode a few days later. It was a pleasant surprise!! I can't wait to take the M Driver's class once the pandemic eases up. I want to learn all there is to know about this machine. 😁

Its great that you have found settings that liven the car up for you! I would suggest, though, spending some time getting used to using the paddles to change gear, it is definitely more engaging / fun than just letting the car do it for you.

Yes, glad to hear you are enjoying the car. Everyone should take the 1 day M School in South Carolina or Thermal, CA. It teaches you so much about your car and taking it to the limit.

Another tip: if you are in M1 or M2, simply press the same button again everything will go back to comfort.

I'm just surprised your sales guy or someone at the dealer didn't offer to walk you through all of the cars features when you bought in. On my M4 and M3 CS they offered to walk me through all the features.

I do recall going through a comprehensive delivery process with a great rep, but being pretty tuned out myself.

I'm usually pretty good about curling up with a owners manual after taking a delivery, but maybe this time around I was too fixated on getting those break-in miles out of the way.

All good, I'm loving it.

I remember on delivery day, the dealership's M expert who gave me the run down was a beautiful eastern European young lady in heels, a very revealing blouse and an impossibly tight skirt. I was fairly distracted wondering if she was going to pop out of that rig showing me the ins and outs of the car, and I'm sure I missed a few details that I've since had to pick up on my own. But the M1 & M2 functions were already familiar to me from a pre-delivery obsessive devotion to YouTube vids while I was waiting for the M to be built and shipped. But a memorably first day indeed!
