Purchasing a 2020 F90 M5C

Hey y'all

I'm choosing between a couple of cars right now, but mostly leaning towards the M5C.

Now, do you guys think it's a good idea to buy a 2019/2020 M5? Since the LCI is supposedly coming out soon.

To be honest, I've seen all the renders and spy pics of the new F90 and I really don't like it compared to the current M5. Also, would you choose the "classic" gauge cluster or the new 2020 one? I haven't seen the new one in person so I can't say.

Basically, I just wanted to ask your opinions on this

Many will respond with personal views, as that's all they can be.

I would usually go for the latest model, but I do prefer the classic gauge.

I'm genuinely happy with my 2019 F90 and I am 100% sure nothing released will make me 'jealous'. Original F90 is all I need and more.

Hahah yeah we all have that little voice in us that wants everything new, even though it might not necessarily be better.

As for now I'm just browsing new and used cars trying to find an M5 that's got the options I want, so I thought I'd start a little discussion here and hear out what everybody has got to say on this topic.

I bought new last September and got a highly equipped early build, so it both looks and sounds fantastic.

In the UK, I got £30k off retail price, which was fantastic, but now, 6 months old with 6k miles, it's probably close to half RRP.

That is the sensible way to buy, as you get a HUGE amount of bang for your buck.

I am very concerned about the direction BMW designs seem to be going, with the larger grills. From that standpoint I am glad to have a 2020.

The 7 series looks ridiculous and the new concept 4 is cringeworthy.

I really hope those don't filter to the 5.

I agree with you that the new 4 series is a bit.. weird. I don't really like the grille from what I've seen, but who knows, maybe it'll grow on me and I'll love it :

Regarding the instrument cluster, I had a 2019 G30 and now a 2020 F90. I prefer the live cockpit personally. What I don't like about the 2019 F90 cluster (that was on the 2018 G30) are the plastic rings that sit on the outside of the gauges. I prefer the clean look of a flat LCD.

In the end, it's all personal preference. I am really happy with the 2020 exterior styling so waiting for the LCI didn't make any sense to me.

I also like iDrive 7 better than iDrive 6, the iDrive 6 being on my G30 and i3.

I suggest looking at a <2019 and a 2020 to decide if the differences matter for you. It truly is going to come down to personal preference.

I had the live cockpit in a X7 loaner I had and didn’t like it.

Now, the gauges and controls in my M5 are different than the full digital dashboard I had in my 2018 M550.....I actually like M5 one over the M550.

I will say I liked the Idrive better in the 2020. However, since I had CarPlay unlocked in full screen, I always have Waze or Google Maps on.

I purchased a new 2019 M5 and 2020 X7 the same day. Even though the live cockpit on the X7 shows/does more, I much prefer the classic gauge for the M5. It just look more performance focused than the newer one. I have zero regrets with my F90 and got a great deal since it was leftover inventory (purchased 01/31/20).

doesn't really bother me, I'll be doing catless downpipes with an aftermarket exhaust anyway

Do you have to have a brand new car? If you are comfortable with used - you could assume somebody's lease that has 12-18 months left and then decide which you like better when the lease ends. Either order the new one or buy out the current car at the end of the lease if you love it. I feel like that lets you hedge and enjoy the F90 in the meantime .

personally i would wait and see the LCI and then decide on what i want .
LCI would normally be introduced before the SOP but you never know .strange times now with the Covid-19 .

Like mine and then you get to get out of it when the LCI is introduced as well as an aftermarket exhaust!
