Track day at Sebring

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
This is my second track event with this car. Wanted to share my opinion and experience. I’ve got atleast 15 HPDE’s under my belt now and this is the most fun car I’ve ever had on the track. Screw the critics, this car is AMAZING. Two months ago I did PBIR and was hitting 151mph on the back straight lap after lap. No brake fade, no overheat (fairly warm south Florida day) and my time at Sebring last weekend was no different. Got the point by from a newer GT350 and a McLaren 570, amongst many other cars, granted they may not of been the best drivers but I could tell they were pushing their cars. Not many cars that can bring your whole family to the the track, get the piss beaten out of it all day, and return you home in comfort and luxury.

I’m also on the pirellis which seem to be holding up fairly well.
All sport plus settings on with steering on comfort.
Car is fairly a stripper: only options are competition package, m titanium exhaust with all the carbon fiber aero pieces, lowered on H&r 550 springs, 12mm spacers and catless downpipes.

I had similar experiences with my '18 with steel brakes at Watkins Glen years ago.

I've moved "down" to a 128i stick. Not as quick on the straights, but much more analog fun.

I have a similar setup as you (using H&R 550 springs). With the 550 springs, any issues with spring rebound on undulations, dips, etc. when taking them at speed?

Nope. Car felt stable and planted even around turn 17 which is quite long and bumpy.

Why the “down” grade? My buddy with his cooper works mini complains all the time that everyone just fly’s by him on the straights despite being fast through the corners

More scalpel, less sledgehammer.

600hp can cover a multitude of mistakes in the straights.

Plus the 2011 128 is NA, stick and only had 7500 miles when I bought it 2 years ago.

Put an oil cooler in it this summer, Proxes, larger brakes and rear sway.

Going back to the M5 or getting an M2CS after driving this for a few seasons will make a much better driver overall in any car.

That sounds like a blast, and that first photo you posted is sick! That's wall poster quality.

All I will add is I did a cruise with some folks back in the early Fall where we took turns in a 458, Gallardo, GT350, AR 4C, and a C7 Z06 on some fantastic roads through Northern Pennsylvania and parts of NJ. It was crazy fun, but what's wild is getting in the F90 at the end of the day wasn't anywhere near the step down in fun I imagined it would be, particularly in the right settings.

This car is the freaking best. Nice to see it doing it's thing on track!

I just got my 22 M5C two weeks ago and my god the car is fun to drive. I could only imagine how fun it would be to rip around the track. Loved reading this!

I love the Audi's looks but the driving dynamics are nowhere near the G80.

M5 is the best 4 door vehicle to transport the family to the nearest mall and then proceed to the nearest track. Could not agree more - critics will be politely urged to criticize some other vehicle.

Such a beautiful car. Why BMW has to make so many of the new models fugly with the new hideous grills is beyond me.

Althought I think the M8 vert is the best looking current model.

Agreed. But colossal jerks will repeatedly try.

Awesome thoughts OP. Have been doing this habit for 20 years, and this is the best sedan on track I've ever been in. Great dynamics. Lots of power. Brakes with adequate ventilation. Congrats and enjoy!
