M8 looks amazing compared to the M5, they should be identical performance wise though you'd have thought.

I for one have a dilemma, M8s too small, M5s looking dated compared to M8, cant get my head around the looks of the M8 GC, so what are the options

I love my M5, but agree with you... the interior looks dated to me when compared to that of the 8 series and even the new X5

Wondering why they have so many problems with launching M5. It is the second video when they struggle to do 11.1 seconds 1/4 mile which M5 will typically do. I had the same issue once after running it on a wet road when the tires was spinning. The system just thought that it is very slippery all the time and when went to dry road it still reduced power when using LC. To solve it I just turn off the car, wait a while, turn on and it some how recalibrated and start to work good again giving maximum power.

The driver is most likely standing on the gas and letting the boost build for too long. The M5 will spin and immediately short shift to 2nd gear and bog every single time if you hold the accelerator pedal down too long in launch mode. It builds too much boost.

I think that it has some bug in the software too. In my case when it happened after LC on a wet road it was constantly reducing the power even when the road was dry as it was thinking that the car will spin the tires. I was able to run the car faster without LC than with it. It become normal after turning off and on the car as it I think it recalibrated. Probably LC is measuring outside temp, whether it was slippery or not and try to adapt to the conditions to give you the best launch. When you once used it whe it was wet it can have a bug and it thinks that it is wet all the time

Yeah, he was probs too long on the boost, also he didn't have the suspension in comfort, this will cause it to bog down more.

i've been having difficulty launching the car, and do it perfectly. never had a problem in my m5, or any other car. Gotta take it in, think there might be a bug to be honest.

I would take either but M5 is far more practical and 25K cheaper!

Glad I got the 2019 M5 where the sound (pops and bangs) is not so muted like the 2020 models and M8's.

The launch differences have to be software related don't you think? The M5 has the old iDrive whereas the M8 has the latest one, so maybe the launch software is also newer on the M8. I wonder if I should take my M5 in for a software update but I'm worried they'll take away the sound!

At that price point, 911 Turbo S is a lot better option in value and performance instead of M8. M5 is practical and priced right. But I've 50/50 chances of launch control to work when needed. Not sure if the transmission needs to cool down after every LC but I've difficulty getting it right every time unlike 911 which never gives up on repeated LC's back to back.

2020 Turbo S base price is $191k... Reasonably optioned is about $215k so that's a $45k difference with every possible option on an M8... You can cross shop a used Turbo S against the M8, but new for new there is no price comparison to be had...

And down the road in 5 years M5 and M8 will be 5k USD apart.

For this money, if willing to sacrifice on practicality, there are much appealing options than the M6

Yeah, but where do the golf clubs fit in a Porsche 911?

They actually do you'll be surprised to see the space behind the seats.

45k isn't a big deal to someone shopping for a 160k car. it's irrelevant. it's value, is what i'm talking about.

who the hell is choosing a 165k M8, over an 195k Turbo/S? thats just stupid, and i don't care much at all for a P car.
