I usually use my truck in the winter but I wanted to see what all the fuss was about driving on summer tires in the snow.. I thought they did great! Even went up and down hills and took corners great

Hankook W320, Michelin PA3 and Pirelli SZ3 with speed index W are the only and best choice for the 20 inch original wheels but not BMW approved (*).
The better Michelin PA4 is only available with speed index V and as well not approved for BMW (*). Approved is only the Michelin PA5 (*) in 19 inch. 😴 |

The SZ2 V index is perfectly fine. Unless of course you plan on driving more than 240 km/h which will land you in jail in North America

The issue with summer performance tires is not necessarily the snow, but the cold. Those soft rubber compounds on summers will start to turn to bricks under 45F degrees and can effect cornering, braking, etc. Some manufacturers are making buyers sign waivers - due to cold not lack of traction.

Even did fairly great the the track yesterday (1/4 mile).. for an all-season. We got 4" of snow this week. They were all I could ask for. With the AWD, I didn't see the need for true winters, in the Mid-Atlantic. Note: I have another car with true winters... and more fun winter driving. The load ratings are for maximum weight.. I'm in the car 97% alone. I carry little to no gear, or passengers. Also, no way I am loading the tires up in the winter.. like I would be on summers on a road course track. Couldn't be happier with them. |

Saves me the hassle of swapping tires out - but I'm leaning towards dedicated winters |
