In normal, slow driving, it sounds the same. If you want a different sound all the time you will need to spend more money and get a full exhaust. (this is just a mid-pipe). I think it's worth the cost at $2k, but if it was double at $4k, I would rather spend $8k on a full exhaust.

My apologies up front to the OP but I scanned rather fast via my cell so this question might have been answered:
How do you think the Sport Exhaust will sound if the resonator (center cans) are pulled? And thanks for posting all your detailed data in the first place!!!!!

That’s what I did. I bought the sport exhaust pipes and then had a custom X pipe made that removed the center cans. Sounds great to me. I posted a video clip as well |

Ok, So I have done the following on this car:
- Stock exhaust with a badly done resonator removal ( 400 miles on the car) This sound was Ok but it did drone a bit on the highway but it felt like I was losing power between the 3 to 5 K rpm - Competition Package or sport exhaust Exhaust ( (3500 miles on the car) I had this stock for 2 weeks and maybe I did not give it time to settle but to me it sounded the same as stock however it did get louder once past 4500 RPM. This mod fixed the feeling of loss of power from the resonator removal from above - Competition Package exhaust with resonator removal and X pipe (4500 to 7k miles) So this to me is what I am sticking with on this car and what is shown on the video above. I had a shop with a mandrel bender use 304 stainless steel custom X pipe and do a resonator delete for the Comp package exhaust. To me it sounds deeper than stock, louder at idle and driving around town. I keep my sunroof open most days so you do get a great deep exhaust sound this way just driving around town. The car is so well insulated that you without something open you will hear very little. At startup cold or hot it is pretty darn loud that my wife hates it ( good thing) and at above 4500K it is sounds great. I mean this car will never make noise like an E63 or a ferrari but compared to stock it is a huge improvement for a total of $2600 installed and it does not drone either. |

Sounds killer with the custom X pipe. My Competition did get louder after 1000 miles as the fiberglass matting inside the resonator settled. But if I were doing it again today I would do your XPipe mod.

Pardon the ignorance here, you are the expert on the F90 but I wanted to ask since my tech said that the resonator is so down stream he could do straight pipes with no power/tq loss. He did this on my 2 RS7's and 5 of my previous AMG's (all Turbos). He said the resonator on the Sport Exhaust is just a sound byproduct. He can do the X pipe as well but straight is easier.
