RC tune map 6 for wheel spin control

I have tried map 7 for several hundreds miles. The increased pull was quite enjoyable but wheel spin in LC was hard to eliminate for launch.

To reduce wheel spin, I tried few rounds this afternoon with dropping to map 6 coupled with releasing brake early to keep rpm under 3k.

Wheel spin issue got much better. 1/4 mile was 10.77. I didn’t measure it with stock form but my previous ride (18 e63s wagon) was 11.18. Both cars’ acceleration are similar (I prefer the senseasion with M5 though). So I guess the improvement is around 0.41 which I am very happy with just a chip tune. In addition, it was the first time 60-130 under 8 seconds and 0-130 under 11 seconds as well.

All these numbers are slow compared to superb record of 6.16 on 60-130 in earlier post. My take is that, if F90 engine could take that much more stress, RC map 6 or 7 should be safe for long haul......

Mine is around 650 miles with map 6 and 7 combined. Hope it will remain running fine when summer arrives.

I had exactly the same problem
The fix: New wheels and tires need to be put in place. Planning forged wheels ( saves about 50lbs of unsprung weight ) 20/10 front and 20/11 back with 285 front 305 back, plus ( the big impact ) low treadwear tires

Problems solved, first it will look better and perform better

Thanks for the reminder, I did the conversion and the number is 6.90. Hmmm, didn’t RC tried 100-200 kph with something like 6.22 with map 7 and 6.88 in stock form?

My 6.90 was from 10.77 for 1/4 mile (2.72 0-60 mph with one foot roll). How can their f90 in stock form ran 6.88? Either they were on downhill section or the measuring device was a bit off?

The current P zero are good tires but it wears out fairly fast. My first two e63 were both RWD. They came with P zero and rear tires went bold after 6k miles. Switching to pilot sport and felt improvement on both grip and wear.

Since I run sport 4WD 90% of time with F90. I am quite surprised that rear tires still have around 60% of tread at the moment (just over 6600 miles).

I feel there is some grip lost on rear tires recently. Not sure was it due to winter temperature/rain or was it really loosing grip. I am tempting to replace rear tires with Pilot Sport soon (need to burn some tread with 2WD first to justify......). I think it should help me to run map 7 without early release on brake to fully take advantage of extra pull.

RC uses the Quartz box and it must measure something differently in the 100-200kph tests. (or test on a slope) My best on level 7 is 6.69 I did pick up the performance gain they claim at a 0.60 reduction from stock. I went from a 7.29 stock to 6.69 = 0.60 reduction. RC went from 6.88 to 6.22 = 0.66 reduction. That's pretty close....but the overall numbers are wonky. Glad you posted yours...thought I was a one off. 10 second, 4 doors sedans are uber cool !

With following facts, it should be safe to say our measurements are relatively consistent:

** your 100-200 is 6.69 (map 7 and assumed 93 fuel) and mine is 6.90 (map 6 and 91 fuel).

** I had one 7.55 record with stock form. The improvement was 0.65 second compared to theirs (0.65) and yours (0.60).

** I actually verified with stopwatch and their 6.88 and 6.22 were surprisingly accurate and if 6.88 in stock form is correct, it means they had a stock f90 could achieve 10.75 for quarter mile which indicates the test section must be slightly downhill...........or, f90 runs little faster at home.........

Excellent data. Confirms RC is a bad dude and an excellent power adder.

Today was warmer so I took her to Pleasanton (20 miles in land from Bay Area). It was sunny around 65 degree at 1pm so the road surface was gripper.

The straight section was kind of short so only measured 0-60 with map 6 and no early releasing brake. Tried twice and both time were under 3 seconds. There was only tiny bit of wheel spin. With RC tune, this new gen of M5 indeed a wonderful rocket. It makes privious E63s wagon look slow......

Just got home and turned on map 7. Will try it again when temperature is warm.
