Just to Bring up The Vette One More Time
So this early morning T-day I got to thinking how the C7 and the 435i stack up pricewise with each other and brought up the configurators for both. I tried to keep both car's content as close as possible and gave the 435i the best performance options I could (i.e. M Sport and Brake package). So both cars have sport packages, leather, and navigation. If I were to get a C7, I'd go with the 1LT trim and the Z51 performance package; to me the 2LT and 3LT trims are just fluff. For $2,800 the Z51 package on the Vette is just an absolute deal (Wheel/tire upgrade, suspension & brake upgrades, eLSD, trans and diff oil coolers, and dry sump engine).
So just for comparison purposes.... Last edited by Efthreeoh; 11-28-2013 at 05:57 AM.. |

As much as I respect the new Corvette's performance, I don't see myself driving one. I admit, for value's sake, the new C7 is hard to top, but its styling is still growing on me. The 435i is great, but its performance is no where near the Vettes. I would never cross shop between the two, but I think I'd go for a base Cayman S (ignore Porsche's ridiculous options list) or pony up for an M3/M4.

Oh wow I knew the c7 was a great buy for what you get but this is incredible. I was never an American car guy but the c7 proved me wrong. I think I would like to add one to my garage in the future but most likely the z07

Happy Thanksgiving!!
Nice comparison and yes the Vette is pound for pound incredible!!!! Now, one thing that jumped out is the vette's eLSD????. Is that right?, it does not have a mechanical locking diff???? That's not right............tell me that's wrong.

It's has a mechanical locking diff. Although It's controlled by a hydraulic clutch that varies the amount of lock continuously. So, it's not a "fake LSD" like BMW has used where it just applys wheel brake to stop a spinning wheel.

meh.
I guess it's just me, but I never cared for Corvette styling. I still picture bare chests and gold herringbone chains whenever I see a Corvette on the road or in print. The interior looks like a typical GM grade interior; give it 5 years and window switches will delaminate, sun visors will fall off, dash materials will oxidize and crack, yadda yadda... The article I read boasts of how GM stopped putting a "Cobalt steering wheel" in the car. Instead, you get one that looks right at home in a Trailblazer. Nice. It definitely has impressive power figures, but it's still taking GM 6.2 liters of displacement to do it. That car has a specific output of just over 74bhp per liter. a 30 year old E30 325i isn't too far off from that figure. Sure, the American press is all over the new Corvette. They always have been and always will be. 'Merica, fux yea!!! Sorry, I'm not impressed. I'm not in the market for a new car, but there's no chance in hell I'd give GM fifty thousand pictures of George Washington for that car. I'll apologize in advance if I offended anyone that likes/has this car. It's just not my cup of tea. As a side note, I am shocked at how expensive cars are getting. I was just at the dealer and saw a new M6 on the floor...$140,000?!?!?!?!?!? BMW, u cray. |

So you expect GM to make a car that is FAR more capable than that $140,000 M6 - and have a top end interior, all for $50,000? The Corvette is a working man's sports car. It needs to be affordable - that's what the whole car is about. As for the engine... Who cares about HP/liter. Compare it to the M3's V8. The Corvette's engine makes more power, more torque, costs less, cost less to maintain and repair, weighs less, is smaller externally, is far more fuel efficient and will most likely be more reliable. I'll take the Vette engine any day. Last edited by CirrusSR22; 11-28-2013 at 05:16 PM.. |

To me, specific output is a great way to put engineering prowess on display. 74bhp in 2013 sucks any way you slice it. cheers, happy thanksgiving. |

i am hoping the Z07 will stay within C6 Z06 price rang. around 80k new, and not 100k new. also i am pretty sure they are not making a Zr1 C7. so this Z07 is going to be top dog corvette. and might be getting a TT V8. i predict the Z07 is going to be the car to get in these next few years.

Bmw's are getting a bit crazy on prices. That's why I won't buy new. Vettes are great buys though I wouldn't drive one every day. It would be a weekend car.

Show me the BMW that comes close to the C7 performance for any price and I'll maybe get interested. I remain unimpressed with BMW pricing. The build quality of BMWs is no better than other cars on the market for half the price. |

HP/liter, the engine being OHV, the one lateral leaf spring in the rear, etc are the usual BS reasons to knock the Corvette. In the end, all of these reasons are irrelevant. Just as long as the car is fast, fuel efficient( for what it is), the engine has a good power band, etc who cares how the engine makes its power. Going to buy an inferior sports car just because it makes 100 HP/liter over the 'Vette's 74 HP/liter? That is how ridiculous the stat is. It won't go into your buying decision. Don't get me wrong it is cool to see small motors make big power, but at end of the day it just doesn't matter. My 7 year old Saturn Aura's interior is still in very good shape. No peeling, fading, etc. |
