might be buying 2019 M5 comp

Currently looking at a 2019 with in-service date of March 2019. Is it worth stepping up for a brand new 2020 with full 4 year warranty? Would likely be an extra 10-15k.

Depends how long you are keeping. Also do you want to lease the new one??

These cars depreciate significantly I wouldn't be buying one unless you plan on keeping for 5 years min.

Even then I would buy used if you are keeping but expect continued accelerated depreciation until it levels in year 4-5

If it were me and I don't know your goals with the car but I would lease a 2021

This is my dilemma I am struggling with now. On one hand, I want to buy used and let someone else take the depreciation. I also looked at leasing and afterwards purchase if its the car I want to keep. The residual is about 68k and a 3 year old M5 are going for 78 to 85k. 2019 M5 is 89k and more.

Goal was to keep it till summer 2022. Then buy an Aston, just a "in the meantime car"

I have the F90 on my list to replace the F80 in a few months, and I'm wondering the same. I really dig that the LCI (along with some late 2019s), uses the newer transmission hardware, and has a better look overall imho, but the pre-LCIs are looking really good, value-wise right now, and I don't want to keep it long term either. I'm thinking I'll just assume someone's lease that ends around the time the G80 LCI comes along

I had M4 comp which I loved. Later had a F90 M5 which I didn't like at all.....

Depends what you're looking for. Drive one before making that move....

Already did. I expected it to be a big F80, and it's totally not. I honestly don't want to leave the M3 platform, but this new G80 is not doing it for me, so I'm hoping the LCI brings some welcome changes. Until then, looking at the F97 and F90. Liked the F97, but it needs too many mods to be great imho, like a tune, exhaust, springs, it has QI issues, etc. So I'm thinking the F90 will fit the bill for a couple years. There's the C63, and RS5, but I don't want to leave BMW...

Also found a dealer demo M8 GC comp in the spec I want for 33k off sticker price!!! It's only 30k more than the 2019 M5 comp. And same price as a new M5

Pretty tempting, wonder how they drive compared to the M5 GC
