Issue with Wi-fi car play connection
Hi All,
Newbie here. Just picked up a BMW approved G20 330i. I am having problems connecting iPhone 15 pro for car play. I can connect the phone to bluetooth and functions fine. However, believe I need also to connect by wi-fi. There is an options under comms to turn on Wi-fi but I cannot get it to turn on. The car has software version from 2021 and I would like to update, but can't through the My BMW app as it is not connected to wi-fi, only bluetooth. Any idea? Dealer not very helpful - and I tried calling BMW connected drive team and they were pretty useless to be honest! Last question - should I be able to remote start my car by pressing the keyfob BMW button three times? I can't get that to work! Thanks in advance for any pointers! Ronnie |

Have you tried connecting through the car play app in idrive?
That should start some prompts to connect etc. Just make sure you have Bluetooth on with your phone. I’m on iPhone 15. 2021 software. When I’ve changed my phone, I always have to connect once through idrive and then it becomes automatic again. Re remote start, not sure this is a feature enabled in the UK. As I think it is region / country specific. |

Thanks gavinwong for the reply!
Noted on remote start. I was given duff info from the dealer! I deleted my phone and tried connecting through the carplay app. It would just not at all find/connect my phone. So I added the phone through the coms section, adding the device to setup for carplay. It connected via bluetooth successfully, and then prompts to connect phone via wi-fi in order to connect apps. At this point is says vehicle wi-fi could not be activated. I can't seem to seperately switch on/activate wi-fi in the car. Which I think is the route of the issue. However, no idea how to fix. Have tried resetting the media unit by holding power button but to no avail. |

Car's been in at dealer today, they updated the software of head unit from 2021 to 2023 latest but still no luck connecting to apple car play.
Still not able to activate wi-fi - can anyone tell me if this is something I should be able to activate in the car and if it is needed for car play? Last edited by ronnie-space; 02-13-2024 at 10:57 AM.. |

Make sure you forget the connection on your phone as well and try a new connection setup.
Is WiFi turned on your phone? Here’s what the manual says. This is for the LCI btw |

Thanks for reply. Wi-fi is turned on in phone, but I cannot turn it on in the car.
https://youtu.be/noWWurhrNks I believe I need to have this working for carplay? Or at least to download software updates from mybmw. |

[QUOTE="ronnie-space;30900056"]Thanks for reply. Wi-fi is turned on in phone, but I cannot turn it on in the car.
https://youtu.be/noWWurhrNks I believe I need to have this working for carplay? Or at least to download software updates from mybmw. I checked my settings , and indeed I have WiFi ticked so I think that could be your problem. I don’t know why it isn’t able to activate WiFi for you. Only other thing to check before heading to the dealer is that in your connected drive store that it shows that you have smartphone integration active. I would have thought so, but maybe there is an error there for some reason. Otherwise, head back to your dealer. Could be a hardware issue / malfunction. |

I had the same issue yesterday. I deleted my iPhone from the head unit, deleted the Bluetooth connection and nothing. I just turned on the car, left it in park, Held the Audio Power button down for 30 seconds until the screen turned off to reset the head unit then I turned it on again the I re-enrolled my phone again then it worked.

If resetting the head unit didn't work then it's likely a hardware issue.
