F90 2018 M5 Base move to 2022 G80 M3 Comp Xdrive?

Dealer has a new M3 and I'm thinking of moving from my M5 Base. AWD was important to me because of the Northeast roads and this one is the new xdrive version.

Wondering what your all thoughts are, or if you'd consider it?

I have an M5 base and drove the new M4 for a test drive. I prefer the V8 and the nicer interior of the M5, but that's just me.

Thanks, yeah interior is a factor. It was a new car but did you get a sense for power delivery?

I had an F90M5C that I just sold, and replaced it with 992 C4S
Test drove the G80 M3 and I called it a mini M5
so it is a great car
but I miss the V8 already

I look forward to some road tests of the AWD M3. If you don’t need the space of the M5, it might even be preferable.

FWIW - I had a tuned M2C which made more power than the G80 M3 does, but I could never get over the fact that it doesn't have that instant V8 torque - even though it was probably close in power. G80 was also on my short list, but eventually I made the decision to either get a new M550i or an M5C.

Some things just can't be compared on a SPEC sheet alone.

It's something difficult to explain but I think you worded it so well - some things just can't be measured by a spec sheet. So true.

Is consider it at the end of my lease to go back to a manual. Been 3 cars since I had one so it may be time.

Agree. You just can't replicate the "fun factor" that a manual transmission provides. Way more intimacy in the driving experience from the manual. And it's not like the G80 M3 6MT is slow.

Flooring it at a stoplight or a freeway on-ramp in my M5 is fun but it gets old (and illegal speeds are are achieved) way too fast. On slower windy roads you can feel the weight. Would be more fun if it weighed 500lbs less and had a manual transmission.

Oh yeah, that's the G80 6MT.

That's likely my next car when my M5 lease ends Spring '22

I have F90M5C and 992 C4S, honestly I'm having WAY more pleasure and fun driving in my 992. It's also a cab.

After I get into my M5 I feel very disconnected, bored and the speed just gets old quick. In M5 you can't even feel the speed. It takes me a few days to get back into liking to drive the M5 every time I switch between Porsche and BMW

I now have a 992 GTS cab on order for next year, might even go for a manual once the allocation is granted to me, to switch things up completely.

To the OP: if you are ok with a little bit less space, and like the G80 looks, go for it. Reviews about how well that car drives are stellar. And if the interior is well optioned, in my eyes it looked better than M5 interior.

Thanks, great advice and the uplift from what is almost a half decade old car (wow F90 still seems brand new) would be great as I have a split brain as a tech head)
