Always tip your service adviser, even when it's a comp maintenance. You'll see how far that goes for you and your wallet.

It sucks, but I think you have to consider the possibility that once the tech brings something like this to the foreman or service manager he has no choice but to react according to the rulebook, possibly depending how this has played out with other clients in the past.
The good news is that, most likely, you won't have an engine problem over the course of a lease where this will become an issue for you. I'll certainly cross my fingers for you.
Now you have me thinking, what happens if your car is flagged and its leased, are there any issues when turning in the vehicle.

You play , you pay.

That's the reason why I'll never tune my cars.

From what I'm reading online anytime I have an engine issue now Bmw has to come and check it out and prove that the racechip caused the claim then i am out of pocket. If they can't Bmw has to cover it.
Tell us more about the first engine replacement? What caused it per their inspection? Was anything aftermarket installed like Racechip?
I am surprised with you, who are very good at doing research, yet couldn't do a simple search on why OP have to get engine replacement.

But no worries, here is the link to that thread.

Had to purchase a new engine oil cooler https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1548650

I would say that they can't resell it as CPO, most likely will be as used.

Leasing return should be no issue, since no one will be able to use a car in 3 years without any aftermarket parts.
As simple as USB thumbdrive to as complicated as hardwired Dashcam.

That was lame of them to do. Plus seeing quickburn's garage, they have potentially lost a good customer!

I would assume a good number of lease returns go to auction but pure speculation on my end.

For those who have experience with this what does this mean?
Is CEL still there? Is it directly related to RC?
Please elaborate made me nervous

I would seriously doubt it-- probably from a modded exhaust. I have 1300 miles on mine with no issues.

Calm down and dont start a new thread "Does Race Chip Cause CEL's"

Hahahhahaha I just cant stop with you.

5,800 miles in 7 weeks (including pickup and drive back from CO). JB4 installed at 1,700 miles along with spacers and new tires. No issues whatsoever apart from needing two new wheels, control arm, shocks and a steering rack... all good, otherwise.

This... Have had same SA for a little over a decade... He gets gifted, cash, always remember him during the holidays...

I have fucked up many a car and even some friends cars... Some of it blatantly my fault but he's always found a way to get it done under warranty...

I have given my service advisor a Christmas gift every year since I owned my E39 M5 and it sure comes in handy with situations like these.

This is what going to cause someone comes with conclusion that RaceChip causing CEL ot blown motor.

Let OP comes back with the detail.

There are so many possibilities with CEL itself.
G30 5-series, G01 X3, G02 X4, and G12 7-series gave out CEL just because the Active Grill is malfunction.
So, it is not necessarily because of the RaceChip.

Exactly right....I'd be more concerned about the engine they replaced causing a CEL with a loose electrical
connection than RC.

Don't know why most everyone in here is jumping down the dealers throat.

It's simple, BMW doesn't want you tuning the car, blowing it, and taking it in for warranty work like MANY have done (or tried to do) i don't care who is willing to admit it or not. I personally know 7-9 people who have blown f10's, all from modfications, some got away with new motors, some not so much. Thats the game unfortunately.

Bottom line is OP should've been smarter and removed the modification beforehand, regardless of what the car was in there for. Sorry to hear this. You now have a brand new 100k m5 with zero motor coverage.

This doesn't even matter, becuase in a case of catastrophic motor failure, the regional rep is coming in, and I can guarantee you your SA has no say when he steps into the shop.
