What Petrol or Diesel car were you driving before you switched to Electric?

Hello ladies n gents!
I currently drive a BMW X4 m40i, which is just a garbage term for a ridiculously looking fast 3.0liter petrol powered SAV/SUV.
Yes, you can booo me now

But seriously I am trying to cross over to the clean energy side and be cleansed of my polluting sins.
When I am not racing in it from red light to red light, I like my car the most when it’s in adaptive mode, cruising through the city with stop start turning off the engine every time for some peace and solitude. I am starting to think I might be seeking an electric car deep inside my heart. I drive the odd 200miles in a day once a month but most of the time I drive my car twice a week to the shop or at weekends since I work from home and do have a second car.

So before you guys came to electric, what car did you drive and do you miss it?
Will you be thinking of going back to fossil fuel powered cars? Any regrets?

I drove an 2016 F40 LCI 118i M-Sport. I miss the clutch pedal, some engine sound , DSC Off button, a low sitting position, and supportive sport seat. The i3S is not really suitable for track days. For everything else, I prefer the electric car. I particularly like the regeneration when you lift the throttle pedal. I am not going back.

I hope for a sporty, lightweight EV car from BMW some time in the future.

That’s great to hear you list all the cool things about a sporty petrol car and say you don’t miss any of it.
I am not doing track days so I guess I won’t be missing much.

Recently got into a 2020 M5.
Also recently sold the M5 and looking to get back into an i3S.

No regrets other than selling my low mileage 6sp Spektrum Golf R and my first 2019 i3S.

You seem to be upgrading it everytime.
I have seen people move from i3 to i4. Also I have heard good things about the Zoe as an affordable and capable everyday EV.
How’s the i3 in comparison to the Zoe?

Much quicker. Otherwise they are pretty much the same size. The Zoe appears cheaper (which it is) and more conventional (which it also is) from the driver seat. (My sister drives a Zoe, and I have hade some of them as rental cars)

My daily driver for 11 years before the i3 was a 4x4 Dodge/Ram with a Cummins diesel. Just sold it last month, because it was sad to see it sitting in the driveway since 2019 and only being driven once per year for a road trip.

When COVID lockdown hit, my job went 100% work-from-home. My i3 has only been driven 10-15 miles per week running errands now that I don't need to commute to work, and I only charge it a few times per month.....

Didn't like the Zoe at all too many problems and got rid of it after some months (It was brand new first batch for the UK but probably build on a wine Monday or so)

The i3 is a complete different cattle of fish and can't really compare them due cost and build as a real BEV (apple & oranges)

The i3 is a keeper but we also have a Model3 for long distance and again these are complete different BEV's

I have a E92 M3, and a F13 M6. Love them both but for some reason, I have so much fun with my I3.

Before the 2017 i3 REx I bought in early 2019 (just before the pandemic hit) I had a 2003 Mini Cooper S with the John Cooper Works package bought in 2005. After 14 years of good service it was time to update and after looking at some "Best used EV" articles I decided on a "Certified Pre-owned" i3. The Proton Blue is almost the same color as my Electric Blue Mini.

I'll give the whole order of BMWs:
1970 1602, 1972 tii, 1979 528, 1995 318ti, 2001 525, 2001 540i/6
the tii was flooded in (salt water)in my garage in 1992, needed money for house repairs so I collected the insurance (family needs over /future rust bucket), but was a very fun car), really liked the 540i(lowered) but driving here in Charleston in stop & go became annoying. Now the i3, also lowered, bilstiens, and potenzas on the rear and rears moved to the front 15/18mm spacers, this might be blasphemy in the halls of BMW, but the i3 is quicker, more comfortable, has all the modern convenience and will certainly out handle the tii, and sincew it won't rust, more sustainable.
Funny to read all the self-rightousness(sic) regarding ICE vehicles as learnt in High School physics: is there's no free ride energy-wise. My i3 is a rex and I make no apologies for using the convenience of the generator, have taken road trips of well over 700miles in one day. If you think you're saving the planet driving a car...
Cheers, APT

I take your point on saving/not saving the planet, no one is actively saving it by driving a car, we can only slow the process down somehow if we only use cars for very long distances, otherwise a walk to the nearby shop. Everyone can decide what is best.
I do like your style to own your bimmer as you want, adding spacers and changing the ride height Enjoy!

2014 535d briefly.

Loved that car, but love the i3 MUCH more.

I gave up some space, but a small sacrifice to pay since I drive alone 90% of the time.

I ended up with an i4 rather than an i3, but wrote a bunch of stuff done while it was on my mind a few months ago coming from my M8:

Diesel

2003 VW Jetta TDI wagon

I got it in '05. Flew L.A. to Apache Junction, AZ. Dealer picked me up at the airport, I drove it to their lot, wrote a check, bought two Phish CD's and drove it home at high speed.
18 years later it has served me well, but I read the paper and know it's time to go electric. It will be crushed soon.
