Wow. Absolutely stunning photos. My wife and I love to travel. It doesn’t matter if it’s by plane, train or on the road behind the steering wheel. I grew up taking lots of road trips so I know they can be special because you get to see so much. This is a perfect example of a special road trip in a special car.
My wife and I have been planning a trip out west to go to Colorado and Utah. Hopefully by next summer we will not be as limited by Covid, because we can’t wait to drive out and and see these spots for ourselves. Thanks for sharing. |

What a spectacular journey, and the car is also great, love your writing and photographing. I really want to do some short trips next year, visit Utah and Yellowstone, if everything settles down.

Reddit is cancer, get off that shit. If you actually give people awards on there, you're pathetic. The heavy censorship and alt-left community killed Reddit a long time ago. And you funding Reddit by giving fake internet aWaRdS is almost as pathetic as you.

Stunning pics! Really brings perspective to a northeast guy like myself what amazing vistas we have out west. And to do all that in an M5 proving that it remains the best all round car in the world. Thanks for sharing!

This is lovely. Me and a group of friends from the east coast (I live in Colorado) did this tour in the fall.
They flew into Denver, we did a few days on our bicycles in Boulder then headed west. Rode the bikes from Moab to Bryce Canyon and then to Brian's Head. My favorite part of the country. So many incredible places so close together. Would love to do it with a fun car.

Thanks for sharing your trip, awesome pics! You went there in a good time of the year too, as summer is too hot and larger crowds. That road down below (in Canyonlands NP) was probably a white rim rd 4x4 trail, I've done it mid august of 2019 but it was pretty hot (105F+)
Anyway enjoy it in good health!

What an awesome and inspiring trip report. Thanks for taking the time to share!
I've been lucky enough to see most of the roads and destinations on Phase 2 of your trip and you did a great job capturing them. Seeing Monument Valley for the first time took my breath away. Edit: If anyone is planning to make a trip to / through Utah and would like a place to stay in Salt Lake City, we'd love to host any fellow forum members. I've done my share of road trips in Europe - sadly none in an M5, or M6 I'm currently driving - and that's an experience close enough to to North American cross country road trip... |

This was amazing, thanks for sharing! Brings back memories as well... My wife and I also like road trips and I LOVE driving (I think it's in the blood being Finnish), and my life time mileage is somewhere around similar numbers to yours. The sad part is that now that I have an amazing car (M6 GC) I seem to find less and less time for it...
The memories, then... One of the best road trips for us was from LA (via many many detours, including San Francisco, Las Vegas, Denver, Detroit, Niagara Falls) to New York. I wish it had been in an M5 or M6, but not that much luck. Wasn't bad, though, we had an E Class Mercedes, can't remember what exactly, probably E350. But oh boy, the Hertz attendant face was the best when I dropped it off at mid town Manhattan... He looked as if I had been from another planet, and asked if I was in the wrong place... 😂 And you have now provided some inspiration for future plans, thank you! I've been contemplating on driving from Melbourne (east coast in Australia) to Perth (west coast) - and back... That's 2,000 miles one way, give or take... Unfortunately there is nothing like UT or CO to see, particularly between Adelaide and Perth, just long and straight road (90 mile straight, anyone), road trains (literally, trucks like trains) and camels. Oh, and kangaroos - you don't want to drive when it's not daylight, they are big enough to cause serious damage, and stupid enough to jump right in front of you on highway... But yes, as I don't think we will have an opportunity to do our next "bucket list" road trip (LA to Florida) anytime soon, need to resort to what's possible. Oh, and maybe I'll get a chance to play the longest golf course in the world on the way - appr. 1,000 miles... that's on the way from Melbourne to Perth, each hole 50-60 miles apart... Again, thanks for sharing, this was huge! |

One of, if not THE best posts I've seen on this forum. For someone Downunder, it makes me want to hop on a flight, buy a suitable Bimmer, and follow this trail, with a couple of trusty cameras to hand. COVID means I can't, and this is certainly the next best thing. Thank You 🙏
