The 1 does have a fold down screen as seen in the Z4 and X3. However, just like in the Z4 or X3, if you don't opt for the navigation system, the area where the screen would be located is replaced with a storage binnacle. That's why you see a little button on the lower edge of the unit.

With more images showing up every day, I'm increasingly getting the feeling that the car is going to look even better IRL than it does in photos... I think that's true of some other Bimmers like the Z4, the sharp lines don't photograph well.
