I'm having trouble finding out whether or not the 135i has an oil cooler as well. I've asked my dealer and they don't even know for sure. This is the primary reason I've ordered my 135 with the Sport package, because I read in these forums that that was the only you could get one on the 3 series. I don't subscribe to a lot of auto mags, but I do get the BMWCCA's Roundel, and their review of the 1er didn't mention it anywhere.

it seems the most likely solution to get an oil cooler is to order sport pack and manual
in bimmer mag a reader question is responded by the editor who confirms a oil temp gauge and also a oil cooler. we will not know till march 22 for sure for NA

Again, not that it will help those in the US, but the 135i I saw here on the weekend (sport pack and manual) definately had the oil cooler fitted and also had the hydraulic steering reservoir FWIW

Oil cooler info from dealer
I talked to my sales associate (here in Canada) about the oil cooler situation. He said he had a long talk with BMW Tech and told me the following about the oil cooler and the 135i:
"It is not an option and is not part of any package. I had a long talk with BMW Tech line and they said and I quote..."If the car needs it, it will have it, otherwise it won't, and tell the staff not to worry at all. It seems only a select few will have oil coolers installed-usually only the very heavily optioned out cars with automatic transmissions will have it-if at all." Well, that's what I was told. I don't think this really clarifies anything does it. |

Maybe I'm off base, but the way to approach this may be to have it written into the sales contract that the external oil cooler is installed as standard equipment (i.e. at no extra cost) or you won't accept delivery. Making sure you stipulate "external" or "secondary". The other option is to go aftermarket, which may be better for the long-term anyway. Helix is coming up with a solution that promises to be at least as good as Dinan for a much better price. B&M already makes very good universal-fit applications for those who don't mind a little DIY fitting. |

There will be several great options for adding an oil cooler before long I'm sure. If there's a biz opportunity out there, there will be people offering solutions.

Read what art_hugo just posted... from the BMW rep at the Chicago Auto Show:
"First question answered, oil coolers will be in all 135is regardless of transmission or trim level." http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...0915#post60915

I'm going to the auto show Thursday. Maybe I can get to the bottom of this.

I spent about half an hour yesterday trying to trace the rat's nest of hoses in the front of the 135i - looking for obvious oil lines running towards the radiator. Of all the things I would have hoped to put to bed it would be the oil cooler - but I want to see where the oil lines attach to a radiator before I am willing to put money on if there's an oil cooler or where it is if there is one. Sorry I don't have concrete proof, but I was told that there is a single oil cooler and it's stacked behind the radiator (as is the oil cooler on the 535i).

Bryan from Mwerks will have a US spec 135i in the next week or so and we will finally get this all cleared up.

Good thinking, but I think he's getting a early-production press vehicle though. I don't think anything is getting cleared up until we start getting our cars...
