thud! In reverse, when turning the wheel all the way to lock

thud! in reverse, when turning the wheel all the way to lock, when going over uneven pavement. Happens often enough, going slow, but foot is on the gas, no braking. Happens turning left or right. It does not happen on even pavement. I thought it was the tire rubbing, but I don't think so. I don't see anything from the wheel rubbing or hitting anywhere. I think its the front tire trying to get traction and push the car in the one big motion. the tires are also cold, as it balls cold out. Everything stock-wheels, tires, suspension, etc. Has anyone encountered this? Any thoughts? Thanks.

Does the car stop or brakes itself?

Could it be one or both of the front wheels “skipping” or skidding across the uneven surface, because you have the wheel turned so far? Does it happen if you are in Drive, with the wheels turned all the way to lock, as well, if you are going forward?

I have noticed this too. A quick thud or skip sensation. Happens regardless of weather. A slow turn out of a parking spot in reverse with steering all the way ...

I think it is this. I tried to replicate going forward, but was unsuccessful. Doesn't mean it won't happen though.

Wow this happens in my X5M something crazy, and as of late I'm assuming because of the cold weather it has been more violent than usual. Was wondering wtf was up.

More than as other suggested it's the tires in cold or wet surface. I'm in TX doesn't happen much to BMW but my Maserati sometimes does it when cold or wet.

Yes, it seems more with the cold tires. It is fn cold out here in Boston lately.

I have this in my 911 when leaving driveway a s turning the wheel to lock to avoid scraping. It skips the back wheels. More in cold weather too.

I get it too and not that infrequently. Never a real problem. Just an odd thud.

Very typical of a lot of current rear biased AWD systems. After driving a GTR for 8 years it's very common to feel the "thud" while in reverse or full lock forward movement at crawling speeds. The F90 M5 drivetrain feels like the GTR under similar circumstances. When I drive them back to back I can totally feel it.

So don't be concerned my man and enjoy it to the fullest. At least BMW didn't make me sign a waiver... LOL
