Agility of M5C on twisty mountain roads
Dear Group,
I am looking to order the M5, however, at this moment I am not sure if the car would be agile around the mountain's twisty roads. We all know straight-line speed and performance, but I am trying to understand if M5C would be equally agile around the Swiss mountain pass ( I live in Switzerland) I did the test drive of M5 today, it is all snowy and most of the mountain passes are closed for winter, so I am unable to test it before April 2021. I did a test drive over the Brunig pass, and it was all wet and slippery, so I could not really push to feel the agility. Another thing which I notice is the A-pillar & rearview mirror actually blocks the view on twisty roads Any experience from this group will be highly appreciated. Thanks |

It's fully capable however it's a boat on the road. I get down in the car everyday as it's my daily. Specifically for those kinds of runs either the new M3 or Porsche would be the fix

Driver mod.
Put everything in sport plus and it is extremely capable. The car hides and manages its size very well. That's said if you want a 3100 pound car, then get a 3100 pound car. The M5 is a multipurpose car whereas a pure sports car has a more limited focus - as it should. |

Same concern here after 14 years of 911's. That said, I think playing to the car's strengths and learning how to exploit them will more than make up for any decrease in turn-in or tactile response. Time will tell!

For what it is, the m5c is fairly amazing in right corners. And really can whip it around, especially given its size.
If you need a 4 door sedan that’s large, that can be tossed around, there is no equal IMO |

I drive over the Gotthardt pass every time I go to Italy. The M5 is not a pure sports car but it is great fun to drive. And luckily the Swiss police does no speed traps uphill ;-)

I think it’s fun on twisty roads. Is it an M2? No, obviously not, but I come from an e92 M3 which could steer like a go-kart in the twisties, and I do not feel like the F90 LCI gives up that much to it. Maybe because of the extra power, I do not notice the weight so much, but the size (particularly the length) I do notice just a bit more. Still very very close to what I had in the e92, though.

Matt Farah gave the F90 a pretty a good run on the above review. That in mind, I came from a fully built out F80 and the F90 is very different in overall dynamics, mainly due to weight, size, and overall refinement. For the weekend(or midweek)aggressive drive on my favorite roads, the car is more than capable and fun. I’m lowered on KW adjustable springs and that has made a bit of a difference in some cornering characteristics, but an M3 or M2 it will never be...which isn’t a bad thing if you’re not constantly driving roads that simulate Laguna Seca.

Thanks a lot for your kind feedback,
M2 & M3 do have much less power, compared to M5. while M3 is 170 KG less the latest M3, the power difference is 115 HP. also, the length of M5 is only 2 cm more than M3, I start to wonder if these small differences make so much in agility. thanks |

flanker25 It depends on what your previous experience is.
Is it better than your X5? Yeah definitely, the quicker steering ratio alone makes it more agile car. Is it as sharp as a 911 GT3? No, that car is 1000+ lbs lighter and has a shorter wheelbase etc... |

i seems large when you look at it, but the M5C is very capable. doesnt feel like a boat at all, very flat, good feel, the AWD takes some getting used to but MDM is pretty fun if you push it. the M5 has the feel and performance of a high-end sports car but also get all the luxury and comfy bits as well. im very happy with it. definitely a fun vehicle

Took mine up a mountain with some friends and was able to hang fairly well. The GT-3 was on rails but I wasn't far behind.

It was a super fun trip and I'm sure we'll do it again. I forgot to set my system up to show performance but the GT-3 apparently hit 100 in one area and 1.4gs on one of the turns. Now I want to know what I hit!! Unfortunately couldn't get the settings up while driving so will have to do it again.

Then an M4...which wasn't so great. Now a (non comp) M5 and I agree it really does remind me of my E92 M3s...that same feeling of confidence and the way it moves around beneath you. The xdrive is a great system...rwd all the time until you lose rear traction when it starts to shift drive to the front wheels. You can get on the power really early coming out of a turn. |

The F80 is plenty competent but it also lack character. It feel clinical and the materials feel “dead” like a plastic Nikon vs a Leica M. The mechanical alive and substantial feel of the earlier generations is missing. Would you say the F90 has more of that mechanical substantial feel of the E series cars? |

For the UK weather...the M5 makes for a great daily driver. After 11000 miles I still can't quite get over just how hard the car pulls regardless of the road conditions. |
