swapping back and forth: Carplay to bluetooth....
I set up CarPlay last year and it works great. I miss the ability to read my text messages with the Message app built into the BMW drive and occasionally like to use the GoPro app to record.
Setting up CarPlay required 'forgetting' the iPhone blue tooth connection. I have not yet tried reconnecting the bluetooth connect and seeing if the two applications clash. Anyone have experience with this? My alternative plan is to connect a iPod with the Gopro app on it. Mike

When I connect bluetooth it disconnects the carplay, so it looks you can't have them both at the same time

Yes I know you cannot have the both at the same time. CarPlay uses bluetooth and wifi at the same time. I was instructed to "Forget" this iPhone on the car and forget this connection on the iPhone when I set up CarPlay. What I am wondering if I reconnect my iPhone via the Noncarplay bluetooth, will this all me to pick blue tooth over CarPlay for my connection and thus use the older non CarPlay functions and if I want go back to the CarPlay connection and use the CarPlay stuff. I will set it up this weekend and see.
Mike

You can switch between CarPlay and iDrive once the phone is connected. It’s somewhere in the mobile device options. I’ll try to snap a photo when I head home from the gym.

You can definitely switch back and forth between Bluetooth and Carplay.
go to connected drive --> manage mobile devices --> you should see a choice for Carplay and Bluetooth, choose the one you want. What I did not try is to "shortcut" this location so its reachable with one touch, maybe I should try this. FYI, the only way to store phone numbers in the shortcuts is through blue tooth not car play, so I do this switch occasionally. |

yes, found that on my way home LOL. Thank you very much.
I was no able to get the messaging app to work, I'll try again later. But calendar worked, etc. pretty easy to swap. Mike
