Anyone regret selling their E39 M5?
I picked up a 2018 M5 in the fall which I love. I also have a 2002 M5 with 107k miles I'm seriously considering selling. It really won't get driven much and takes up garage space.
Anyone sell theirs and absolutely regret it? |

I don't personally regret, but all my friends seem to be regretting not holding on longer to theirs, due to values going up.

I got rid of mine back in 2003 for the E55 with, at the time, the most crazy tq numbers ever for a sedan (516 lb/ft) so it was a change that I didnt regret.
In hindsight I do miss that car quite a bit but I dont think regret sits in my head. It was a privelege to have owned one though and to this day one of my most favorite M cars.

E39 was my first exposure to M5's and followed the progression to E60, F10, F90. My current M car stable is an E60, 2-E39's, E34, E28, and E46 M3. I guess I am biased.
E39 exhaust note with Kelleners is something that will never happen again and reason enough for me to keep it forever. |

LISTEN, DO NOT SELL YOUR E39 M5. It's a keeper!

It was my first M car MY 2001 I ultimately traded it for a 2002 911 in the spring of 2002
I do love the E39 though! At that time I didn't regret it at all and began and many years of M ownership. I do wish I had an E39 M5 now though just to drive occasionally. Of all the BMW's I had the car I regret not keeping is the two different Z8's I had. Owned a 2001 and a 2002 Z8

The Z8 is a gorgeous car and hard to compare to other BMW's.

I ask myself this question frequently. I have a 2018 f90 since April 2018 and an 03 E39 M5 in fantastic condition. I bought the e39 a year after the f90 because I missed having an analog car with a manual. I’m contemplating selling the f90 but don’t think I could part with the e39. Nothing else is comparable to an e39 and it’s no surprise the values keep rising. I think in 5 years a clean 80k mile 2003 will be $75k - $100k depending on color.

Same boat with OP. but so far I think I’m keeping it...
Obviously e39 M5 group peeps highly against selling it, and ex- members came up to try to look for another since they sold it isn’t unheard of. Unless a chance for a e39 M5 wagon swap or Rapide came up..

Don't miss it as we still have one thats a keeper. 60k miles and 3 owners from new. The last owner was a very good customer of ours and we were offered the car by his wife when he passed away a few years ago so it was great to be able to preserve it.

Good lord, stunning. Still one of my favorite looking cars and it's a damn shame I'm nowhere close to being able to afford one. I don't care if they don't drive super well (supposedly).
