2019 M5C, 2020 M8 Convertible, or 2014 911 Coupe?

Hi guys. I am debating between lightly used vehicles:

A) 2019 M5C
B) 2020 M8 Convertible (non comp )
C) 2014 Carrera coupe

This will not be my daily driver.

Just love to hear everyones thoughts and why?

With you being in California I would go for the M8. Nothing beats a drive with the sun shining on you and the wind in your hair.

Great options, I'd choose depending on what the car is mainly for! I'd go with the M8 Convertible for cruises, or the Carrera for spirited driving!

Carrera would be my choice as it's the most fun to drive and the LA/OC area has a lot of fun canyon roads to exploit. Plus these cars hold their value well.

But that top down feel cruising on PCH is priceless. The M8 would offer that plus be a newer car with better tech/comfort. But be mindful of awful depreciation.

Not your daily, then I say go full sports car, I don't see much reason for the M5 or M8, as while good, they are more one car solutions. Also why a 2014 911 when you have two new $120k+ M's? Newer 911's can be had in those price ranges while still holding value well.

Either way 911 or Cayman/Boxster would be top of my list, preferably the 981 Boxster with a glorious Flat-6.

I wish I could test drive all 3 cars with you and could then possible give you some input about the best purchase. I just purchased a 2016 435 ix which is a hardtop-convertible. As our weather now does not allow for top down driving I'm anxiously awaiting warm weather to get the car out of the garage with the top down. I think you can see what I would recommend. Pick wisely and enjoy your choice.

Thanks guys!! I went and saw the porsche today--- Leanin 911.

Reason its a 2014 is that the new ones lease wayy worse than a m8/m5 and so this would be a purchase in my range.
Which would sound better? 911 w sport exhaust, or base m8?

I think the Porsche 911 is the right choice since a ‘14 won’t depreciate much at all over the next several years. Great car!

I also think the M8 will be a steal in a few years once it is around $60 - 70k!

For a non daily, I'd say go with the Carrera because of where you live...

But I'd also add that the first two cars you cross shopped are at much higher cost, so to compare apples to apples, I'd up the year and go for an S.

That soft-top on the M8 vert would be a deal-breaker for me.

P cars do hold their value very well!

Have you even driven any of them? There is so much difference in size, ergonomics and personality among the three. A 991.1 with the base NA engine needs to be WOUND out to feel fast. Its a nice engine, but everything happens at high RPM. You have to really prefer the NA personality to enjoy it. Compare that to the turbo torque of the two BMWs (and your current 550) and it will feel slllloooowwwww.

Based on the m8, I'm assuming your budget can push $90k. For that you can get a nice 991.2 vert and get the best of all worlds. The new small t turbo engines are great, they still rev like the old P-car engines, still have the flat 6 wail, but now have enough torque to get off the line with a push. The convertible is an engineering marvel. Its actually a fabric covered magnesium shell, so it's quiet like a hard top in the up position and keeps the clean coupe look. It folds in under 20 secs and with the built in wind deflector can be used top down in the high 40s F (not that you'd ever see it in Cali, but out east it extends the top down season by a couple months).

Best of all, you can get the 911 w. a true manual if you search hard enough. At least that's what I did.

aazerusc you say you would be buying the 911 used and not leasing. What would be the used budget for cars then? I imagine you could find a really nice Boxster for the price. Perfect weekend convertible and excellent sports car.
