Mate thanks to you and your in depth post about ordering and installing the Competition Exhaust, I’ve done the exact same thing. And although I’m still running in the car and exhaust (about 1,000km done now), I’m happy enough with it to keep it in favour of buying an Akrapovic for the car.

I had the BMW M Performance titanium exhaust (basically an akrapovic with M Carbon Tailpipes) on my F10 and I thought it was ok. But I too didn’t feel any improvement in performance with it. It looked nice and sounded ok.

I think BMW have done a great job with the stock exhaust and the Competition exhaust is a great value for money option. Cheers!

Correct on the F10. Akrapovic is no longer supplying BMW M with product. Current MPE systems for the M3, M4 and M2 are supplied by Eberspacher from Germany. The quality is not any where near Akrapovic's and they have cracking issues on the M3/M4 at the muffler.

I’m really starting to like my Competition exhaust. Gets a little louder after it breaks in. Might just keep it.
If they are like the F80 and F82 on the muffler is titanium and the rest of the pipes are stainless steel.

Here's another video of the same car with the new system. Sounds amazing to me!

Akra sounds great, but I think the money is better spent on the competition model while you get the m sport exhaust which is much better than the stock sound. But glad to see the option.

The welds in the M4 pics (with cracks) are not close to the weld quality on my Akra.

Sounds and looks amazing, i'm sure I'll be happy enough w/ my stock exhaust in sport mode (picking her up tomorrow ), but this looks the way to go for any future changes.

Sounds good, but not $8k good.

Even if all F90 owners have $8k sitting around in disposable income, I'd rather be putting that money toward another 2 door weekend supercar that sounds mean as hell bonestock.

Before you can say $8k is too expensive we'd need to gain some perspective with alternative options and their price, sound, weight, appearance, build quality, etc..

In sports cars, enthusiasts value power, ownership and sound. I do not understand the opinion that it is not worth paying $ 8,000 for a radical improvement of one of these three elements

Can I stir the pot for the folks talking about price?

Let's talk about it, we all know the pricing is a bit out there. Can't say outrageous cause it depends on the pockets it's coming out from.

We talking about a M5...top of the line trim, it's gonna need top of the line parts.

Now is the weight shed, performance gained, increase joy, better aesthetics, cool factor and better fuel economy worth the 8K?

It would hold its value over time. At least 30/40 percent. Sell the stock system it should balance out.

Let's look at the good. It's making the car better all around.

I see getting from Akrapovic the same way as buying Brembo if imma gonna get a BBK.

IMO its a good investment, if you are a car guy. I'm sure the performance gains are noticeable.

Thoughts?

I purchased Akro for my X5M and wouldn't think twice about doing it again. It's only gotten better with use. If I end up with a Comp I will probably just leave the comp exhaust on the car. If I end up with a base I will def put Akro on it.

Love the Akra on my X5M. Weight loss is nice. Sound is killer. Quality is incredible. Would buy it again today. But, no catback is going to make a power gain on an X5M or an F90. I’ve measured the back pressure and used Dragy and Vbox. M builds a killer flowing cat back. Generally, it is too quiet, but it flows very well.

Surprised everyone is talking about the exhaust when the beautiful design of the m5 was the victim of a huge crime. Might as well be pink. Zero class.
