A lot of people lease their cars so 8k is a big investment for a car that you will return in two to three years.

Eberspächer Prototechnik GmbH is manufacturing the MPERFORMANCE exhaust out of Ti for the F90. The price point will be interesting. Love the Akra on my X5M but it was just $6k. $8,500 delivered is getting up there.

I’m really starting to like my Competition exhaust. Gets a little louder after it breaks in. Might just keep it.
Ok guess won't Akra this time around.

I believe most current F90 owners can probably afford an $8.5K exhaust. In my case, it boils down to whether it's actually $8.5k better than the Competition Exhaust which will come on the F90 I have on order.

You don't build wealth by spending where you perceive there's little value IMO.

Stupid comment.

In Europe , an M5 like mine cost 152k€.

When you go with a winter set , a few extra parts , ceramic coating , exhaust ... there's a limit somewhere.

And 8k for an exhaust is absurdly expensive , especially for the small difference in sound.

Sounds unbelievable.

Akra proving again (at least to me) that they're the reference standard for exhaust systems. The only real reason to pick something else is price. When I bought my Akra system, I related the brand to my girlfriend as Gucci-level exhaust. Extravagant, but you rarely regret buying the best.

How long until others copy the staggered-cut tips?

Akrapovic is just on another level so it's a pay to play price. I had it on my last car and couldn't have been happier.

To add, even an used Akra costs a pretty penny and usually can be sold on the secondary market for 75% of their original cost. I bought my last set in the 7k range and sold it for 5.5k used. At least that's how it was on the Audi side of things.

^^^This ..I have Akra on my current F10 M5 and they're holding great value on the classifieds. Will be selling mine soon as I part out.

Over the last 40 years I've installed a lot of different exhaust systems. Akrapovic is, by far, the highest quality and easiest installation I've completed. It just fits, click, click, click. The Ti welds are amazing. Major Craftsmanship ! Capristo, although stainless, is also a work of art.

No catback exhaust system is going to add power to the M5. The marketing will say 5-10hp.....you can't measure that accurately on a rw dyno. You're lucky to get back to back passes that close without any changes. M built a great flowing system, large piping, etc. Sound is up to the end user. I hated my X5M sound and bought Akra. Would do it again. Made ZERO extra power based on my Vbox accel tests. I don't care. Sounds much better.

I'm 99% sure I will keep the Competition exhaust I installed (thanks lemetier). It's light years better than the factory X5M and better than the standard M. It is great that we do have more and more aftermarket choices to customize !

Close to 5 digits for a sack of pipes lol! And after all that it still doesn't sound as good as the competitions cars do stock!

I'm assuming all you guys ponying up this outrageous price have your homes plumbed using exotic metals as well?

pick and choose what's important then. because no one owes you a cheap Ti exhaust.

Or make more money. What's holding you back?

That's what I did

I know what money means , and 8k for some metal tubes is ridiculous.

It's my opinion though ... and may be I'm not rich enough to afford it

I know that this tread is about the exhaust.......but could the graphics be any uglier on this car?? Should spend the $8k on that. LOL

If you believe you're only paying for metal tubes, you're not Akra's target customer anyway.

I don't think staggered cut out tips are anything that dramatic to make a big deal about?

Me either. I'm only wondering how long until we see copies of this unique design.

F90 buyers have disposable income. Why not dispose of it on the very best exhaust? But I agree. You're paying for top notch materials only. The improved sound can be had on lesser systems. Also, one must have an extremely sensitive butt dyno to detect a 7 hp gain.
