Front bumper WTF

I just took delivery of my car few days ago and I noticed this. I don't believe this looks like the factory did it. do your 2021 front bumper covers have holes in them?

Yes but that's because my dealer drilled holes in them, don't think they come with holes from factory.

That was license plate mount. They must have prepped for prior "buyer" who did not buy it??? What state are you in? Do you require a Front Plate???

Likely what happened, and that would suck hard if you don't need a front license plate or planning on using a tow hook mount.

In my experience the dealers (Audi and BMW at least) make you sign a paper before they will mount the plate bracket for you. I think they had another buyer who backed out at the last minute and the holes were already there. They should have pointed it out to you at the very least and OFFERED a redress of the issue.

That sucks. I buy most of my cars used and the way I filter my search is by holes drilled in front bumper. I just don't want to have to close them up so I just move on to the next car

Likely happened during PDI, treating it like any other car. I refused to take delivery on an X7 because of it. It was much easier for them to correct it there because it was just a shadowline piece. I'm definitely not letting them touch the next car I order. It will go straight for paint correction and coating.

With all the engineers at BMW you would have thought they would have found a better way by now to attach a front license plate other than drilling straight into the bumper free-hand. At least have some mechanism to attach a plate if needed under the bumper out of sight. Simple L bracket that affixes underneath. I live in a front plate state so I always have to remind my dealer to not put the plate on.

Now hold on one minute. You are injecting LOGIC into this equation! You are asking for too much! Doh! I agree it should be designed to have a plate mounted but at least the mounting bracket they have for it is descent looking once on the car. But free hand drilling holes is lame.

You can get color matching plugs that will hide those holes pretty well. Sorry that happened!

I spoke with the dealership and they will be taking care of the bumper. They agreed it should have not happened. Their detailer made an executive decision.

Glad to hear it, sorry it happened to you. Do not let it dampen the joy and fun! Just curious how are they planning to fix it?

Me too. Have walked away from a couple amazing cars because of it to the disbelief of sales guys. It’s a dealbreaker in my book. Bumper plugs won’t cut it for me.

Agreed here. I basically told my salesperson no test drives and no front plate or I will walk despite being super excited about getting the only m5c allocation at the time at a relatively small dealer.

I am taking the car to my paint guy and they will cover the bill. At least that's the agreement for now.

Same thing happened to my car - it is black so I just had them detail the bumper and then I put black screws in the hole. This way I can carry the bracket in the back the car and the plate in case I get stopped since California requires a front plate.

You have such a great car, don't let this little imperfection stop you from enjoying it to the fullest.

I believe the bumpers on this car are "one time" use because of sensors, which means that the bumper has to be replaced when it is painted per BMW instructions. Please double check that. May be have the dealer take your car back (give you nice loaner car) and get it repaired in "BMW certified" body shop that you approve for your own protection, they will be responsible and you are not stuck in the middle! It is their fault, the car has to be perfect before you collect it again!! It will work out, keep us posted. Enjoy safely and in good health buddy!!

Speaking of sensors, in looking at my owners manual (yes, I am one of “those”, lol) it says that “film” may block the sensors. Could PPF cause a problem with this, or has anybody had a problem with this?
