I don't know, personally I don't see a M5 CS coming. CS and GTS on the M3/M4 I can see because they are lighter and smaller cars and some will use it on track, but M5 is a business saloon so what else can you do on top of a competition package that will make it unique? A big wing like the GTS?

But I guess you never know with BMW these days, after all, Jag did put a big rear wing on their 4 door sport saloon and claimed a ring record for a sedan.
Maybe BMW will go after such a record. They could even campaign the 5er in racing in certain markets. It sure sounds like the 8er will be raced and I would bet that model will have a CS.

There already has been an M3 CS so it's not like that's being reserved for coupe models.

But the part about being a CXX, having 3 kids, only making it to C&C once a year... yeah, life gets really busy. The M5 checks off a lot of categories all at once. This, coming from a guy who use to have stacks of race tires in my garage for 10-12 track weekends a year in my E46 M3, back before I was married. lol

My commute in my F10 M5 was the most relaxing time of the day for me. Looking forward to getting back in to an M5 when this X5 lease is up.
Much, but not all, of this registers with me as well. I'm much younger (26), but work 15+ hour days, don't quite have the money/garage space for a weekend car like a 911, so the M5 checks all my boxes. Get to drive fast and spice up my commute, it's big enough to drive around my wife and our friends, and if we have kids, there's space.

But...I also have some time to post on these forums.

Background. I have one on order. I didn't want to post this information until my dealer called and confirmed a date to finalise my order. Now after weeks of calling, pushing and just being plain annoying all the information from each contact is now coherent -BMW Australia, Munich and my Dealer.

  • 0-200km/h 10.8 seconds
  • 305km/h top speed with m drivers package
  • Sports Exhaust** with competition specific tuning (more cracks and louder)
  • Revised Suspension (lowered and firmer in sports/+ settings)
  • Y-Spoke 789M wheel
  • Black Badging, including "competition" under rear M5 logo
  • Black front and side grills
  • Blacked out lower portion of rear bumper (around diffuser)
  • High gloss rear boot lip in black

Performance details now leaked on the BMW Germany website:

The price. I know majority of the people reading this are not from Australia. If you are, fantastic, I can give you a price to the dollar. $229k before on roads (Australian Dollars). But again, most of you this means nothing. I can say, the price is almost identical to the last competition package on the last generation F10. Given this US customers can expect the price to be similar to the last comp pack.

As per my last post production begins in July. Deliveries begin in September.

Australian buyers will see quite a few extra options standard with the package including the Bowers & Wilkins diamond surround sound system.

Per Marius16, here's the F90 M5 Competition with Y-Spoke 789M wheels:

Attachment 1816879
Its quick, but its huge. I am sure it will smoke a ferrari or two.
Who actually plans to track this car?
There are some super tracks in the US for this car.

CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS
ROAD AMERICA
VIR

granted .. it wouldn't be my choice around Lime Rock or Hallet. But I've ridden in an M6 GC gran coupe and hit 165 at COTA.

Any idea how many mm lower it will be with the competition package suspension setup?

I’m wondering if I’d still need the M Perf coilvers or if the CP suspension would suffice.

Why do you care what the trq rating is? Assuming sufficient traction, which the car now has with AWD, acceleration determined by two things: hp curve and weight. That's it.

I believe on the F10 it was about 10mm IIRC.

Coilovers will really depend on how low you may want your car.

Yup, you're right, just verified 10mm or 0.39" drop on the F10 ZCP, that is really nominal. Dinan coilovers on the F10 lowered the car 1.25" or 31.75mm. Looking at the M Perf F90 pics online another 10mm lower would be too low in my opinion... But 0.39" of a drop alone really isn't enough... hmmmmmmm

I loved the price point on the KW HAS which is what I have on my F10 M5. I think's it's a great compromise between fixed height springs and coils. Ride quality is very good as well.

Whatever you want; they're adjustable.

Had a dealer tell me yesterday you can spec comp pack on your build now if you order. And he was in the system and read off what's included. First I'd heard of this.

Hmm weird, is this for 2018 or 2019? When I was talking to them, it seems like 2019 orders are not being placed yet (in california anyways), let alone able to look up build info.

I was told 7mm front 10mm rear change in firmness would be subtle.

He said cost wasn't listed yet but to figure $8-10k.... pretty sure that's just an educated guess though.

Just picked up our M5 today and so far it's amazing! Dealer mentioned the Competition Package is coming and gave us the option to place an order.

So is May 8th really the official announcement of this comp package? Hope there’s some actual confirmation of all this speculation.

I think it's mostly confirmed (although I'll hope for a surprise).. I just want to see IRL pictures to see if the wheels are an improvement.

... and I want it to include the seatbelts with the stripe *
