Personally, if I was in the market for a new vehicle, I would want it 100% original. |

Not saying tuned cars can’t be great and well maintained. Just a general statement about evaluating used cars. And also my question was directly responding to his comment about it.

Rejoice and give a prayer to the V8 God! BMW is about to release a recall in regard to the Expansion tank. I was just getting the 2 year maintenance done and the service tech said the recall is about to roll out. Only took 6 years huh?
Don't know any more details as to what models years will be included, hopefully the entire F90 generation. I wonder if they've improved the tank for the S68 engine, and that's what we're about to get. |

This is great. Theoretically, if I find a F90 next year then it will already be done.

A tech told me that it'll cover the tank but if you paid to have any of those items fixed due to the leakage of the tank you can potentially get reimbursed for it (not sure how much total) due to the TREAD Act. Save your receipts! |

I have a 2019, 32k miles, bought at 29k miles. stage 2 from the previous owner and I haven’t noticed any coolant tank issues at all yet, I guess reading this thread has me wondering if the car might have had issues In the past though? I remember checking into the car fax before purchase and not noticing any coolant tank type services but I’ll have to go recheck.
Sounds like I might be taking it in for a recall regardless. Any advice from those in the thread on if I should have them look into anything else while replacing the tank? I think injectors are recommended at 40k should I just get out ahead of that while I’m at the tank? TIA |

Very nice. Makes sense. I'm planning on having my tech do new coils, injectors and plugs. mine was a mess so I'm sure there's residue on there. I get the odd limp mode out of nowhere.

This one of the reasons I like to delete the primary cats. I also noticed on long highway stretches cruising between 80 - 110 the arm rest area would get warm to the touch before going catless. Is this something you noticed as well. Ever since pulling the cats I have not noticed any heat in the area at all. Didn't notice this with my X5M but likely because there's more clearance? I went catless immediately on the F10 M5 so no comparison there either.

Personal experience
I have been reading this thread for a bit now. For me this started about 4 months ago when I got the "low coolant warning." I then topped it off with Pentosin and thought nothing of it. Then I checked a month later and had to top off again but no low coolant warning. Noted a tiny bit of white residue on expansion tank but thought it might have been from overfill leak or poor cap seal. Have only 56K on the 2019 M5C. Only driving on the weekends. Intermittently I would have slightly longer crank times on cold starts. Not really reproducible. After reading more of this and the leakage causing some injector failures I got concerned enough and checked the BMWUSA website and saw no open recalls. I then called one of the local dealerships(typically don't go, use Indy typically, car just out of warranty) and mentioned my concerns. After a little cajoling, the dealer suggested I bring in the car in. Two days later, sure enough leak was detected and unfortunately injectors 6-8 all damaged and replaced. Coils and plugs were ok. I hope this fixes this issue and hope to not have any other major issues. Apparently there is no formal recall due to not having enough replacement expansion tanks available for asymptomatic vehicles. Just wanted to pass on the updated part number and I have been on the site since 2008 with my E60 535i. Back then it was HPFP issues but again this site was very much helpful then as well. Just sharing some info. Happy driving.

Perhaps it has to do with date of build as some 23s were built in 22 and perhaps there was a point when they switched over. Who knows? Considering the cost of these repairs and what could happen I’d play it safe when it comes to something that the dealership will not charge for. Feel worse for those that ended rebuilding their engine. That’s crazy but much respect for that kind of dedication. Too rich for my blood.
