Longggg night on the bench....had some Porsche stuff too

For reference, a straight 2.50" pipe flows 514cfm at 28" on my bench. 2017 650hp ZO6 main cat flowed 485CFM.

1. BMW M5 Main Cat flowed 524 cfm at 28". Best Main Cat Stock I've had on the Bench. Secondary Cat was 542 cfm at 28".

2. Airbox flow was tested at 10" since my car maxed out at 10" at 21.5psi of RaceChip boost at 7000rpm when I tapped the Intake with a digital manometer. Wanted to keep it real world.

3. Stock Airbox, stock filter, no charcoal filter, flowed 445cfm at 10"

4. Stock Airbox, BMC filter, flowed 492cfm at 10"

5. Open hole cut to fit the airbag inlet, flowed 511cfm at 10" which is perfection. Basically like removing the total airbox assembly and running just the pipe to the turbo.

MEGA THANKS TO MIKO....no test results without him. GREAT GUY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I’m an engineer that’s in my own world...LOL.

1. Remove the factory charcoal filters and air filters. Replace with BMC filters and you have removed all airbflow restrictions. You will not get the sound or looks of aftermarket, but the same airflow as the tubing necks down even smaller to the turbo.

2. The OEM BMW F90 cats are the BEST I’ve had on my bench. Even outflows the HJS 100cell Motorsport cats with a 3x2.50 inlet outlet. Flows better than a 2.50” straight pipe, but less than bypass 3” pipes.
3” pipe 790cfm > F90cat 524cfm > 2.50”pipe 514cfm.

So the BMC air filter is worth purchasing to increase flow but as we expected a full air intake system is good for only sound and looks.

Good, you will mess MAF's if you do.

@onfireX5
Did you measure the cats I.D.? Is it 2.5"?

Very impressed with primary and secondary cars!

Didn't expect that stock air filter is only off from straight pipe 15%
And 10.5% from BMC filter.

There is no MAF on the F90 M5......and no issues with oiled filters and MAF ...as long as you clean the MAF with MAF cleaner on a regular basis
