Seriously you'll go with a completely different car just cause you can't get the exact shade of blue you're after?

I know it sounds stupid, but color is very important to me. Not happy at all with the factory colors they're offering. As much as I love the car, there's a couple others out there that are on my list as potential options...

The M4 coupe is built at the Munich plant. It is one of the older BMW facilities. Accordingly, it also has some of the oldest painting technology (robots).

I have a Fire Orange M4 coming stateside very soon. In July, I was told that Fire Orange was no longer going to be available on M4 coupes because of the difficulty of the process with that specific paint and the older painting hardware located at the Munich plant. The word was, no more Fire Orange until they get the robots updated at the Munich plant (2017 at least). They even cancelled some outstanding Fire Orange orders in August. Since BMW and I have been working my M4 order since August of 2014, they thankfully spared me from the chopping block. I will likely have the last Fire Orange M4 Coupe until at least 2017. In fact, it may also be the only 2016 M4 coupe produced in that color.

I expect that what folks are seeing with these rejected color requests is also related to the same challenges with the older painting technology. Difficult paints trying to be applied with older paint robots. It may be that BMW is trying to reduce the time and effort it takes to get these paints "right" with the older robots.

If there is any good news here, it may very well be that the M3 and the M4 convertibles may not be effected by these paint limitations as they are being built in different locations.

Just because someone had a particular individual paint request rejected for an M4 Coupe, I would not assume that a similar request would also be rejected for M3's and M4 verts...

Not only has FO been discontinued (at least on M4 coupe's) but they also had to cancel/modify some existing orders because of this.

Did something happen to your first F80 or are you just looking for a change?

It's strange to me that requests for colors like this are rejected. After all, people have ordered colors that are from other manufacturers. So not only are those colors not used by BMW today - they never even were in the first place. Couldn't one simply request a color that was effectively Interlagos, but under a different name? Sure it would cost more ($7k-ish, I think), but if you really want that shade and are willing to pay, then why not right?

You could always get Daytona Violet, which IMO is cooler anyway. And I happen to drive a TV E36.

Sucks about FO, that would be my color of choice

it really does to me... LOL.. but to each their own...

I do have a friend that just priced himself into a Dodge Ram SPORT because of interior/exterior color combos on different trim levels available in the Dodge pickup lineup.. ... so... at least you arent alone !

back to the original topic.. I like Interlagos as well... love san marino blue even more... i suppose a wrap is out of the question?

Oh hell yes, that's awesome. Congrats, she'll look amazing.

Fire Orange would have been the only color I'd be willing to pay for, but I'd be happy with Austin Yellow as well.

excellent post!

Some of the older (90s era and before) paints have also been deemed environmentally unfriendly in some fashion.

...which is exactly the explanation BMW Individual gave me in 2009 when I attempted (repeatedly lol) to order the original Estoril Blue. The person ultimately responsible for that explanation spent a year with me on the exterior and interior individualization so I trusted her info to be correct. As a compromise I ended up with a Monte Carlo Blue M3 and a full Rust Brown interior. Estoril II came out shortly afterwards, a newly concocted paint replicating the old one which of course met environmental standards. Whether they are intending to produce an Interlagos II is anyone's guess but regardless, I can understand the frustration behind the OP's denial.

Shit man, who you telling? I ended up with LeMans and it's just about perfect.

Months of bullshit on the color, but Interlagos was in the end a no-go for me.

LMB is killer. I've seen one M4 and one other M3 in LMB, but know of no others - then again I haven't been nearly as active on this site and others since my baby arrived.

Don't. Just, don't. This is a horrible reason - sometimes we can't get what we exactly want exactly when we want it, consider yourself lucky to have the option to even consider buying one of these things. Would you buy a kia just because they offered it in IB? I hope not - the car makes a case on its own right, or the car doesn't.

Don't deprive yourself of this machine because they won't make it in IB, please, it's a great car they built in any color.
