Hey guys I bought 2021 M5 Comp at 38,000.kms (23,600 miles) in December 2023. This is my first M car and not sure about “normal” oil and coolant consumption.

Currently I was on a road trip at 44,597 kms (27,500 miles) and had my first low oil warning. I had the oil on hand and added a litre and all seemed good.

I got home and then got a low coolant warning. Picked up some coolant and added 24 ozs (green BMW coolant mixed 50/50 dilution with distilled water) in the main coolant reservoir and 4 ozs on the intercooler tank. I was within 2000 kms of my schedule oil change so brought it in for a check up.

They did the Oil change and all round check. No issues no leaks. On my invoice they stated “M5 engine will use 1 litre per 1000kms”. This seems a bit extreme am I wrong here?

Thanks!

I don’t remember hearing anyone talk oil consumption issues on the F90 and certainly not at your low mileage.

Coolant yes that’s a regular issue. Usually traced back to the tank leaking but not always.

I am at 25,700 miles and no oil problems. Coolant is questionable at times.

I have had my 21 M5 since new and have never had to add oil or had a low oil notification. I have added coolant/antifreeze a few times.

The OP should check the oil level now that the dealer has changed the oil. Lazy dealers won’t wait for the engine to warm up to recheck the level so it is possible it was near the minimum the last time it was changed. I have never added oil. I have found my engine coolant just below minimum before, but never had a coolant low light. This is over 28k miles and 3 years of my ownership and the car was 3 years old with 24k when I bought it. I DIY maintenance and repairs.
