No modern BMW will ever be "part of automotive history." In 5 years, the new CS will come out and this will be priced like the good condition F10s are now. The price gouging is what we're seeing across most cars and it's not just limited to the CS.

You would need to go back to the E34s, E39s and to some extent V10 E60s in good condition to be in the "automotive history" category. These cars are just computers on wheels now - more or less.

Best modern BMW M cars are the e30 M3 (all varieties), e46 M3 competition/CS, e46 CSL, e36 GT, e36 LTW, e39 M5 (and probably any e39 5 series), E82 1M, e92 GTS and e90 CRT, F82 M4 GTS, F87 M2 CS, F90 M5 CS. Thats your "automotive history" BMWs since the e30.
