Cool. Where do you think we were? I remember an M2, just can't place where right now. I saw less than a half dozen Beemers anywhere on the trip. Thousands and thousands of pickup trucks in those states, tho.

Can you take much luggage?

BTW, pardon my noobness, but I'm not tracking what you mean by blue OG.

We were passing through 12 heading from Montana to Washington on September 22nd. I drove an f90 at an m track days event and loved it, so I always notice them. If not you, a twin going through about the same time

I drove from Seattle to Denver solo, picked up a friend and did 4 days around Colorado with Express Rally. When we got back to his house he had such a great time he came back with me. We went through Yellowstone and 12 coming back and it was fantastic.

The M2 was great, I have added Ohlins coilovers, and lots of sound deadening (among other things) that made it very pleasant. Surprisingly we had similar gas mileage on the trip 🤣😂 but I guarantee you were a lot more comfortable.

Not much space in the M2. We have an X3M competition arriving on Monday.

Couple pics from our trip. Blue OG - meaning not an M2 competition, the original.

4,062 miles in 8 days. 7 states. 8 out of 40 cars that started the event in Colorado DNF'd. 3 of them were mclarens (out of 4 mclarens)…

Not exaggerating when I say this, but this post is literally my favorite all-time post from Bimmerpost.com. Wow! Thanks so much for this!!

I've actually been on road trips to many of these places in the last few years, including to Devils Tower in my X3MC just a few months ago.

Well done, sir

That sounds like a great trip, too. Do you remember whereabouts on 12 you saw me? My photo by the Clearwater says it was taken around noon on the 21st. You said you came thru on the 22nd. Could there be 2 M5Cs on the loose out there??

Where was that last picture taken with the rocky road? Looks interesting......

Big day coming Monday. Enjoy.

It must have been a different one, it would have been on your day 2 - we did Montana to Seattle on 9/22. This was along the river on the 22nd throughout the day. Also my REVER app tracking for the 22nd

The big mountain road is million dollar highway in CO. We also did independence pass and pikes peak. I would like to return to all 3 - no question. They were absolutely stunning.

Thanks! Really excited for the X3M. Sounds like we'll get it tomorrow!!

Just did this stretch from Ontario to Baker City in the spring. The landscape is rolling hills and way more scenic than southern Idaho.
Pulled in to see how things were going in North Powder, the gateway to the Anthony Lakes Ski area. A little rehab going on.

Arrived home in the early evening. Felt good to be home, but felt a little hemmed in by the city and all the traffic.

Another great trip in the books with my patient and fabulous co-pilot. Most days we were in the car at 8:30 and rarely made it to the hotel before 6 pm, many times later. Gonna have to cut the daily mileage down because there is always too much to see and too many things left behind. The same trip at only 250 miles/day results in 17 days in stead of 13.

I called my dealership as soon as I got home because I was now 11,000 miles since my last oil change. I told the appointment person who I was and what I wanted. She said I'm not ready yet - and I told her I was at 19,000 miles. She said they had me at only 8,000 in June for my last one, am I sure about the mileage? Did I have a busy summer? I said yeah, and 4,000 were just in the last 2 weeks. She said "I have you down for 8:20 am next Tuesday." Thanky much.

Some Final Thoughts on the M5:
The LCI M5C - what can I say? Zero problems. Never put air in the tires. Never needed oil, or water or wiper fluid. I've had 4 BMW V-8s now - never had a problem with any of them. They all seem to get better with age. I feel like they really hit their stride at around 20,000 miles. I love the M1 and M2 buttons. Passing is a breeze when needed. Freeway driving with the radar cruise control is tremendous and 2 lane twisties with the suspension tightened up is marvelous. Never get tired of driving this car. But I'll be at 22,000 miles after year 1 and thoughts begin to creep into my mind with what to replace it with and the timing of that event. Will the supply chain shortages end anytime soon? What's the last month I can order another M5 in this cycle? Do I want an M8?

Aw, who cares. I'm just going to keep driving this car for now.

Thanks for tagging along this far. You're a real trooper. Or a lonely person. Whatever.

Safe travels.
Hats off to you sir!! That's what a beautiful car like that was meant for, to drive an enjoy. I'm sure it was an enjoyable trip. You're my hero!

This is something I am strongly contemplating come spring.

I'm going to start researching a nice scenic route, maybe not as lengthy as yours but we shall see. These cars are meant to be driven and they do it damn well.

Enjoy the car in good health, the M5 is damn lucky to have an owner that took it on such a journey!

Cheers to many more years with the beautifully designed M5
M2, M3, M4 or M5 - I don't think it really matters. Just getting on the road is what matters.

I don't get to the Rockies enough, either. And look at you, you're in NJ. Smokies don't really do it. Nice. Just not the same.

It's crazy sometimes. I want to drive to Halifax, Nova Scotia some day. At 350 miles a day, it's 10 days just to get there - with no screwing around on the way. Gonna need a month.

Lot to do today. The Crazy Horse Memorial was just down the road, so we thought we'd take a look at it. Crazy Horse was an Oglala Lakota warrior fighting federal encroachment of native lands, eventually battling Custer at Little Big Horn. The Lakota tribe commissioned the statue on private land in 1948. If completed, it will be over 600 feet long and 500 feet high. After the sculptor died in 1982, the widow took over. When she died in 2014, seven of the children were working for the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation to help raise funds and continue the work. They have a long way to go.

Photos are nice and sharp,...and look to be captured with a proper dedicated camera vs a cellphone! That said,...I offer this bit of photography tip to make your photos stand out even more,...and that is,...apply some "Rule of Thirds" (RoT) in your composition! Many of the photos you captured are worthy of large printing had you applied RoT in your composition. Also, it's ok to Crop a photo to make it better!

Again,...thanks for sharing!

Edit: Wow! Tons of pics,...soon are very nice,...and again, thanks for sharing~
