Exclamation 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing vs. 2021 Audi RS7 vs. 2021 BMW M5 Competition

Very interesting read indeed....😳

Can’t say I’m surprised that the Cadillac won. Car and Driver has been raving about the V series Cadillacs for years now. Kudos to GM for building these cars but unfortunately they’ll probably be a sales dud since they still have a tarnished reputation from the absolute garbage that they built for decades.

I’m surprised they picked the RS6 over the M5 though, sure it looks great but the performance is somewhat lacking.

All that being said, you couldn’t pay me to drive a GM car (and I worked for GM for almost 10 years when I was just out of college).

I have an aversion to owning a GM product, but this isn't even remotely surprising. It's a pretty exceptional car to be fair, plus C&D absolutely shit themselves over it before they even drove it.

life's too short to avoid a certain brand. Too many great vehicles to choose from. Caddy is an animal.

My biggest disappointment is that it's not AWD/4WD. All the manufacturers use the same damn ZF tranny so why couldn't they copy-pasta what the M5 is running in it but instead of the unreliable s63, I could get that LT5. Imagine.

I'd absolutely buy a blackwing over a m5 if it was AWD, because that thing with a 2650 would be an absolute riot.

Edit: I completely discount C&D reviews now after driving all the exact cars that they do. I thought he new RS7 was pretty composed, but pretty much more of the same as the old one. I'm sure the blackwing is the same shit as the last gen CTS-V - usual chevy interior, stupid electronic gimmicks that don't quite work (The rear view mirror that's a camera for example) but has an amazing power plant and mediocre suspension tuning. They poo-pooed on my x5m too because it "doesn't give the sensation of speed" that the RSQ8 did. No shit, because it's made to go fast all the time. I'm sure the new g8x platform will be "too heavy" even though it's probably going to be a modern day GTR.

Once I exhaust the M5 platform, absolutely. I'm still on my first one and loving it

Was wondering when someone would post this, hah. Most editors seem to get a kick out of shitting on the F90 while at the same time usually admitting it's the best appointed, and always the quickest of the comparison group. Having owned both the latest C8 RS7 and now my LCI M5C, the M5 still wins that comparison, hands down. My RS7 was an electrical gremlin machine, but even more than that, I don't have so much as a rattle that bugs me in the M5, the full leather is more extensive than the RS, and while the interiors are comparable it just feels exceptionally well built.

All of us wish the steering had a bit more road feedback, but that's the only gripe I can regularly come up with in an otherwise excellent car. I'm sure the Blackwing sounds great with that supercharger and the V's have had handling dialed in for a decade or more now...but that interior is going to show it's roots immediately, and that's where you spend all of your time, flogging or not. I've also got selectable 2WD in the M5 and I've used it exactly once...even in 4WD w/ traction control on this thing breaks loose on even kinda damp pavement...the Blackwing would be useless where I live.

It's the cheaper car in ways you'll notice all the time, and the lack of an AWD system excludes it from even consideration for me, even with that engine. Enjoy those burnouts a few times, and then you're gonna be pissed you can't do more than feather the throttle in even light rain.

I had a Gen 1 and 2 V…baddest 4 door I've ever owned. I'm hoping the m5cs I have on order will deliver. I was on the fence between the cs and the new V, the 6mt made it really tempting.

Awesome to see the caddy dominate, would like to see a cs and e63s go up against it.

Thumbs up

One of my good friends took delivery of his order recently. Says it's "absolutely bonkers". I hope to get a test drive soon...

The CT5 Blackwing is a cool ride, but as usual, GM fit and finish is horrendous.

just got back from the international car show, saw both the 6 cylinder and the 8, this thing is nasty in person. Bucket seats and interior looked good.

I dont even need to question the motor, having already owned a 6.2 SC, that thing will always be one of my favorite engines ever.

Looks like a nice car. It is hard to tell by the picture, but is this the size of a 3 series or 5 series? Looks more like a M3 competitor.
Lots of nice car available, just depends on what each person desires. For me there were so many things that went into selecting the M5C. I initially was going to get the E63S. I did not consider Cadillac, Audi or others.

This is the 5 series sized car. The CT4-V is the G8x competitor

That might be one of the better looking GM cars I've seen! Hopefully they've improved on the fit/finish since the older CTS-V's. I did track days at COTA (beginner publicity/sales track days) with GM's V cars and BMW's M cars and let's just say the V cars didn't hold up quite as well.

If it's called a "Blackwing" shouldn't it have a black wing?? Or at least a more pronounced spoiler. Haha.

Actually, the true irony is that Caddy developed a very nice modern multi-cam V8 called the Blackwing (which is the origin of the name), sold it for a year and then killed it. Then named this car for the engine that it does not contain.

The Blackwing is a car I would love to drive for a week, and then give it back. I’m sure it’s balls to the walls fun, but as mentioned multiple times above, the fit and finish are going to age like milk.

This. Most people in the market for a performance luxury sedan would not pick a RWD Caddy to live with on a daily basis. For most people it has to check all boxes - or they would go for something like a Corvette or Porsche if they are solely looking for a fun track car.

I'm sure it's fun as a track car compared to the others, but the people advocating for the Cadillac either do not own an M5 or are not in the market for any of these cars. Give them $120k and have them make a decision - I bet it won't be the Cadillac.

and even if the caddy was faster, it still loses
but its not faster. and the interior is not good.
