A tip from the Angryinch Garage.

When parked for the day or night, release the hood and open it to allow the heat to escape quickly from the engine bay.

With the hot vee turbo configuration, the heat is trapped in the top of the engine and will soak there, baking the valve stem seals and other components. This is why the fan and coolant circulates for a bit after shut down. Seals get roasted with no cooling which leads to future oil consumption.

If you wanna be even more crazy, put a box fan on a 20minute timer on some kind of table/object at the height of the engine bay

Of course, a climate controlled garage is also a valued addition

Oh, I have thought of a fan pointed at it.. These engines bake like an oven after shut down... I think I might remove the insulation on the hood as well..

I recommend to idle the engine fro about one minute after spirited driving. It's another way to cool off an engine.

I find my IAT rise hard if I let it idle too long. I usually idle down for half a minute or so then shut it off. The coolant is circulated through the turbos via an electric pump.

If you were doing some really hard driving, I do a cool down on the way home, gentle cruising to let the radiators and coolers do their job.

Do you live off a highway? I have to drive through 10 miles of lights at 50 mph speed limits and another 2 miles with traffic lights for the final leg home. My fans rarely run after I get home and shut the car down.

I'm in Scottsdale so thanks for the tip. I have a front fan blower aimed right at it. And I also leave the garage door opened to circulate air. Not to mention in the thick of summer where it can get to be 130 deg + inside a garage it's good to use these types of tips!! Any little bit helps. Even just trying to do more "spirited" driving at night or early mornings.

I live right off a highway, and when I park it it sounds like I've landed a NASA shuttle.

Like steam billowing out, emergency crew waiting on standby, guys with reflective jackets running around, radio chatter. It's awesome, I feel like Chuck Yeager

My solution has been to not sweat it, and return it to BMW on lease maturation!

Good tips though, thanks folks!

If you installed the more extensive carbon fiber engine cover it removes 99 percent of excess heat by convection. It's magic carbon fiber.

I trust the tech, the car keeps the fans on until its cooled.

LOL why do you think I added a 2-ton A/C unit ONLY for my garage?! Certainly wasn't to keep the gardening tools cool.

It's funny you should bring this up, the last few days I have parked frontwards instead of backing in. I also open my hood before I go inside to greet the wife and family to allow that 30 minutes or so of rapid cooling.

You could probably scramble eggs on the CCB's. When you walk buy after spirited drives, you can feel the heat coming off all 4 rotors.

Most people who I take for a ride comment " hey you left your car running " LOL
