PPF front only?

I know that there are pros and cons to PPF. My M5C (Marina Bay Blue) is on the way. Is it worth just doing the full front? Will the PPF front look different from the rest of the vehicle?

PPF is so good now, you can just do parts of the car, and it won’t stand out. Absolutely 100% get the front done. And the side sills at the very least.

Going to take the opposite position here, solely based on my own experience.

On my, now gone, 19’ M5C, I did a partial PPF w/ ceramic and over time (3 months) the Non-PPF portions had more swirls, water marks and imperfections versus the PPF portions.

The entire car was paint corrected prior to the PPF so the non-PPF portions did not pop as much.

Ended doing the rest of the car.

Current 22’ M5C went Full PPF and Ceramic and could not be happier.

Just my .02

Good luck

Thank you for your info. I think that makes sense as well. Especially dealing with MBB color.

How long did it take for the whole car install?

Took about a week and a half but this was paint correction, PPF on entire car and CF bits, tints, Exoshield, and ceramic on interior, exterior and wheels.

Done to perfection. Now THAT is how you protect a car.

I did my entire front; bumper, headlights, hood, fenders, windshield, grille, etc. You will notice the rain/water run off better than on the back and areas that are not protected.

I go on rallies with my car, so the front was needed for rock chips, etc. I used Protective Film Solutions for the installation.

I can second josec70 's comments. I had partial PPF and ceramic on my 2019 too. The areas that were left off showed signs of swirls and scratches while the PPF areas looked brand new. It's just going to happen. I went with full PPF and ceramic on my 2023 and I now have more peace of mind. Maintenance is uniformly easy now. I will say it's considerably more expensive though, so I can completely understand doing partial versus full if you're not driving it often or only holding onto it for a year or two.

I went will full SunTek PPF on my 2023 M5 and could not be happier. SunTek is kind of a combination of PPF and ceramic coating, so it looks much shinier than XPel. I highly recommend SunTek.

I picked up my M5 on 2/8 and deeply regret not immediately taking it for a PPF install. Not to mention that the first detailer scratched it in spots, but the front end is already pockmarked with pinhole chips. I also considered getting just the front-end but am just going to take the hit and get the entire car done. He said he'll end up doing paint correction and prep at least the entire first day. I'm on the fence over Stealth or not; I'm going to head up there on Wednesday to see how it would look with some he has laying around.

The only con of PPF is cost. The rest is nothing more than benefits.

You absolutely can just PPF the front and Ceramic Coat the rest of the car if your budget only allows for that. The front is essential. Otherwise, there are consequences that obviously some people don’t care about and others do.

Agree with the only con of PPF being cost if the whole car is done or the entirety of every panel that you’re going to PPF is done. I’m not saying you’re doing this, but as an example, some people will only do up to about half of the length of the hood. There will inevitably be build up of from at the seam over time and it will go from being less noticeable to extremely noticeable and crappy looking. No half panels, and always get the seam to go all the way over the edge of each panel, even if you don’t do the whole car.

If I had the money I would ppf the whole thing just for piece of mind and ease of cleaning. Ppf with ceramic is much easier than just ceramic.

With that said I only did the bumper, hood, and side view mirrors and can’t tell any difference in paint quality.

However this will be subjective to paint color. I am rocking Donington Grey. I also properly wash my cars by hand, use DI water, and never towel dry, so don’t expect to ever get scratches or swirls.
