I have a friend who picked up a 2009 335i convertible, it's in great condition. I helped him do the maintenance things that car needs, new gasket for the oil filter housing, but ended up doing new intake, including changing to metal pipes, new intercooler, plugs, coils, front bearings, etc .. the car is in fantastic shape. This Saturday he is doing a tune. 400 hp at the wheels? Is that possible. LOL. He's itching to do the cat back exhaust (down pipe will result in stinky car). It's an illness. Do I have to tune my Boxster now? LOL. NOT

the 335i is probably the worst car ever known to man. My mom had one (09) also, and the problems just never stopped. With that being said, it is a great platform to make power on. My buddy has one, makes over 700whp on big turbo, it's a hoot. And of course, it's down every month for one reason or another.. |

He did the tune this morning. We went for a ride. FAST, really fast. LOL. Then it happened, check engine light, limp mode. Investigated and found a bad COIL. So more parts.........
That is why I leave my cars STOCK. I told him.....leave it as is......enjoy it as is.... Mike

Coils are common with more boost. I started getting misfires at the higher boost with the JB4. Changed to S55 coils and no more issues.

Have had my 08 E61 535xi for 10 years and just replaced the turbos at 152k as preventative maintenance. Also did the water pump as preventative maintenance (last replaced around 75k miles). HPFP replaced under warranty before I bought the car and no issues since. I changed the ignition coils once. Has been very reliable but I have maintained it. I am giving it to a family friend now and think it will go another 5 years.

To each their own, tuning comes with risk. I am totally ok with the risk, totally fine with accelerated wear, I've used RC on multiple cars, roughly 70k miles between the cars and all is well. JB4 and RC are pretty tame.

I tune everything, but some more mildly than others. The E61 535xi got a JB4, the E90 M3 got a tune, x-pipe, pulley, intake and water/meth injection, the F90 M5 has a JB4 and is getting water/meth injection, and the E36 M3 has a turbocharged built motor with tune and exhaust and water/meth injection.

I know it's fun.....and you can get huge power, but I can't take that kind of risk for a little more fun. These cars are great as they are. Mike
