Ahhh a common question asked on the forum.

Today, at the last minute, I needed a new mattress for my guest bedroom for this evening. The mattress store was not going to be able to deliver it until tomorrow. Rush hour was already in full swing and I didn't have time to get from the office to home before going to the mattress store to switch cars to my SUV. Admittedly, it's more suited for jobs like this, but the M5 worked in pinch. To those who wonder whether it's utilitarian enough…

Answers before there are questions: No I do not have roof rails/rack; it's a queen 60" x 80" mattress; there is protection between the CF roof and the mattress; no, I would never do this if I owned it; yes, it's only one ratcheting tie down — I live in the city and did not exceed 20 mph for the entire short drive.

This is a half a joke, obviously this could've been done with any other sedan — fire breathing dragon or not. But there's nothing about the M5 that prevented me from doing it.

Sorry she's filthy; she'll get a full detail tomorrow.

Better your M5 than mine, LOL. I am glad it all worked out in the end.

Lol not something I would have ever thought I would have done. It was an urgent circumstance.

Tomorrow? You couldn’t wait to have it delivered the next day? Hell, the main reason I would have waited to let them deliver it is so they can carry it inside. I can sleep in a sleeping bag for a night. I had to wait 2 weeks for my last mattress to be delivered.

I love it! Mattresses can be scary to carry, though. A little air underneath and they can take off. 20mph seems about right. I have hauled lumber, sand, concrete, mulch, gravel, tools, dogs, etc. These are really useable cars and the fold down rear seats help. I have put 10’ lumber in mine.

It was for a last minute guest that I was not expecting who was coming to my home. It's a special mattress for those who have mobility issues, so it absolutely had to be there last night. The salesperson was kind enough to help me get it up there, though he too was a bit surprised when he saw the car I was using to transport it. When I ordered my last Duxiana mattress, I also waited a few weeks for it to be delivered.

LOL, thank you!

I was thinking of you once we got it up there! If I am remembering the details correctly, I think that you once told me that if you took your sawhorses and cordless saw to Home Depot, you could get 10' plywood sheets in yours.

Agree with you regarding mattresses, though. Hauling them isn't something I do even when I have my more suited SUV to complete such tasks. I would not have done this if high speeds were required.

Thank you!

Yes, I know. I had a feeling that would be a trigger to some of the detail enthusiasts here! The obvious answer? Go with CCBs. I had done a bit of "spirited" driving before my mattress crawl.

Full detail to be done in a couple of hours.

I’m hoping to replace the brake pads shortly to a set that doesn’t shed as much.
