Anybody care to school me on suspensions???

I have a dumb, but much needed question to ask of my forum peeps!

I am looking to get coilovers soon, and I am noticing TCKline's thrown around quite often. Can anyone school me on their reputation/what they are known for? I know that KW's are well known in the bmw world of cars (at least from the forums i've read).

I am coming from a more JDM background, so Tein's were considered the holy grail of comfort/performance coils, which i see as KW's for the germans. However, TCKline / AST are prevalent on the 1ers. I have really never heard of AST before, and have rarely heard of TCK respectively.

Any help/info is great! I know that kw v3's are adustable without removing the wheels in the front (for height) which is cool! What else is there to know for other manufacturers?

Not sure what info you are looking for but TCK makes an excellent setup. They tend to be track oriented so their coilovers will be a serious setup that runs stiffer than a street based coilover. It depends on what you are looking for out of suspension. Is this a daily driven vehicle? Will it be used at the track regularly?

TCKLine is a custom valved Koni Single/Dual adjustable strut + not sure what brand spring is used.
The TCKLine can be compare to KW Clubsport.

AST is more in line with Motons or Ohlins. Vorshlag has AST Coilover kits for Evo, STi and other Japanese imports, as a matter of fact, Edmunds.com's EvoX runs AST from them.

^I have looked for books, but they all seem kind of dated and you cant find jack at barnes and nobles. There are books on amazon if you look hard enough. make sure to read the reviews carefully though. other than that, asking specific questions on here can be helpful(ie. should I get a bigger front sway bar?). I have come to the conclusion that no one has figured this car out exactly, except for Orb, but he doesn't post here anymore. So, you just gotta tailor your car to your liking/purpose.

TCK's can be had in the S/A or D/A variety and just about any spring rates you want. Street comfort can easily be had with softer rates.

AST's can be custom assembled with just about any spring rates as well. Have a look here:

If you are looking for a system to lower your vehicle only for that sporty look, go for the KW V1, 2 or 3's. However, for serious driving or track duty, you will need TCK, AST or a modified version of the KW V3 or KW Club Sport. Then there is Moton, Penske, JRZ...for track only use.

Here is a link to a modified version of the the KW V3:
