Even when I took in my M5C for its 1200 mile break in service in October they told me the day I pulled in that they were out of differential fluid so I had to wait an extra week for the service. This has all very wide ranging ramifications - from builds, to delivery to even service appointments.

Curious if with these shortages and delays in repairs if BMW will end up offering to extend any of the warranties. I can't see them wanting to do so, but if customers lose out on months of usage because of shortages and service that can't be performed as a result, doesn't that cut down the value of the warranty? Maybe more so for paid extended warranties perhaps?

When I took my car in for the 1200 mile service in July 2021 I dropped the car off and was contacted by the service department a couple hours later. I was told they were out of the differential fluid and could not perform the service. They did say there would not be a problem with me driving the car until the fluid arrived and the service could be performed. I called back about a month later and was told the fluid was available. I brought the car in and the service was performed with no problems. I do not drive this car daily so I am not putting a large number of miles on this car. I only put an additional 200 miles on the car before I returned to have the service performed.

They offered me an X3 loaner if brake pads are not in time. Luckily that was not needed

Must have caught the diff fluid luck like I did, no issues here in Seattle last month. Buddy was end of September/beginning of October and got the same statement as a few other folks, outta fluid. They let him take it home and brought it back around the same time I took mine in. You can drive up to 1K past the 1200 limit without them complaining.
