Hey guys thanks for all the input and advice! In the end we didn't get a VW Golf GTI because we were looking for AWD, and stuck with the Subaru Impreza Sport 5MT. I'm still deployed so wifey took the photos for me, I was hoping to fit the M5 in but alas beggars can't be choosers.

I got my family's old 1984 Subaru wagon that my grandfather had installed a push button starter in when the starter went after I turned 16. Had a manual and big silver push button starter. It was cool as shit. Drove manual hatchbacks and wagons until I was almost 40. Loved every one of them. Get him a manual at least. It helped me appreciate how to enjoy driving, even at slower speeds. Speed is a privilege. Help him earn it.

That said, a small/medium sized pickup truck is a good choice too!
