Agressive/Flush fitment 22" wheels build thread
Hi ///M Fans
Now i will "build" 22'' wheels for my F85 X5M and looking for flush fitment and want some opinions from owners, which use 22" wheels. The car is dropped with H&R VTF Adjustable Coilover springs may be will exchange with KW V3 for smooth ride and more adjustable options In the moment i was use OEM 612M wheels + H&R wheel spacers: Front 10x21 ET40 with 285/35 R21 + 15mm H&R wheel spacers Rear 11.5x21 ET38 with 325/30 R21 +20mm H&R wheel spacers New set will be with "Classic" specs: Front 10.5x22 ET? 295/30 R22 Rear 12x22 ET? 335/25/22 The major problem of course is ET values for front and rear wheels Now with OEM wheels/tyres and H&R spacers have this "room": Front have over 13.5mm gap from the outer edge of wheel and inner edge of the fender Rear have a 8mm gap from the outer edge of wheel and inner edge of the fender After a lot of measure i thing FRONT will be ET20/25 for flush/agressive fitment REAR will be ET13/ET15 for flush/agressive fitment I attached some photos of the OEM wheels and how they sit on the car Thank you in advance |

I just picked up a set of 22s of the same size and I have 35ET/Front and 25ET/rear. Although I don’t have them on yet to show the stance. I am also not lowered (yet) and do not have big M brakes. These should be aggressive enough for me to not use spacers.
I’m sure others will chime in and see what they went with! |

Warning for all of you. Do NOT run 295/30s with the 335/25s in the rear. It WILL lead to transfer case issues eventually. The overall diameters are just outside of the 1% limit.
I got about 25,000 miles with the combo before I started getting slippage at the front end. Luckily caught it in time but the transfer case fluid was black from all the clutch rubbing. Solution is to run 285/30s at the front. The only issue is that the only tires available in that size are Michelin PS4S, so not exactly a cheap combo. Just want to help you guys avoid a costly mistake. |

I kindly disagree with the above, maybe a random rare issue of some sort but I personally have done it 295/335 on both E70 and F86 for the last almost 10 years with zero issues…. Just my .02.

Yep, correct. Back in the day there was no 285/30-335/25 combo as the PS4S is still a fairly new tire. I saw tons on issues in Germany with the 295/335 combo, maybe something to do with Autobahn speed? |

But it’s your money. Just trying to help people before they run into an expensive issue. It WILL happen eventually. Highway miles may make it worse. You may have been one of the lucky ones. |

I had the issue on my 2016 X5 35i and if you look through these boards you will see a LOT of regular X5/X6 owners who developed transfer case issues running the 295/335 combo. It also takes a lot of miles/years before the problems show up (probably even less time if the diameter difference were larger than the 1.4% of this combo). Again, feel free to ignore the learnings/advice of the many experienced forum members as well as the BMW spec of less than 1% overall diameter difference front to rear. We are just trying to help you avoid a potential problem. |

I thing this is great discussion because this is popular tire choice
I need to check and ask some BMW transfer case specialist here and write you have a difference between regular F15/F16 and F85/F86 (I thing is different) In Europe have 285/30/22 Continental SC6 and new SC7 too. If have another member which run X5M/X6M platform on 295/335 tire setup and have a transfer case issue to write here |
