Good deal or wait?
My dealer is offering me 4% off a MY23 M5 as a returning customer.
It's hard to even find any at just MSRP it seems, should I pull the trigger or wait for things to potentially fall more in the coming months? |

I would also recommend waiting, but not too long. I had a MY22 allocation in early April and BMW converted it to a MY23 before the build start.

Things will be coming down. I traded in a x3m40 in June, the dealer listed it for 8k over trade in. The car is still sitting on the lot as of today and the price has come down to 2k over trade in.

the fact they offered 4 % off is an indication that the market is softer now which I predicted .
In a great market you might get 10-11 % off but that will not happen probably for a 6-8 months time frame so it is your call |

The market is correcting, slowly. In the case of the M3, there has become quite a good supply of used 21-22's that I am seeing pop up on CarGuru's over the last 6 months and a lot of them have sat there unsold. Some of them have been reduced $10-15k. Once the used car market corrects to normal, I think the supply of new cars will go up.

If you have to go new, I'd pull the trigger on that deal.
No doubt the used car market is adjusting fairly significantly, although we are not seeing it at the retail level yet. And while new car inventories are improving VERY slowly, I don't expect BMW to ramp volume up even if they can. The past two years have taught them a lot in terms of fewer incentives and higher margins if they keep inventories lower. Also, I'd expect a mid year price increase thanks to the printing presses in DC and around the globe. Also, if you end up slipping to a 2024 model, there will be another solid price increase between model years. So, in a couple of years, unless you put high miles on a car, from a resale perspective a 2023 will be a 2023, whether you bought it in Oct '22 or or June '23. Take the deal, enjoy the car for several months for not much more money.

We’re all fortunate enough to be on this forum to begin with whether we’ve acquired the means by working our asses off, making sacrifices, inheritance, beg/borrow/steal, or dumb luck. Regardless of the means, we all face that SHORT life. So Hell Yes, get it now or get it in a couple months, but just get it!
Wife thinks I’m nuts of course. She grew up in affluent home with everything handed to her while I grew up eating welfare cheese and buying my own school clothes at 16. She drives a $30k Subaru by choice. Go figure. |
