I have been toying with the idea of upgrading my 2018 M550 to an M5. I was leaning toward a nice low mileage CPO 2019 or 2020…the pre-LCI models are in the 80-90s.

But if I were to go new I'd lease one. What are you guys paying for leases on these new ones with minimal money down? Trying to decide if it woudl be smarter to go newer/LCI and just lease vs buy. If it's significantly less I'd go CPO…if it's not a huge difference I would just lease and get a new one.

I also think if I get a new one, I can do certain tunes and get a warranty with the manufacturer that runs with the factory warranty..another plus. I love my M550 but I want more power.and a tuned M5 would be nuts.

just did a lease quote on a 2022 with 120 k sticker and it was like 2100 dollars a month including 10% tax. 3 k down
so leases are bad now
my 2019 was 123k MSRP and the lease was 1600 k a month and zero down
same mileage
big difference is
10% discount vs 1 %
higher money factor ie interest rates
not sure about RV

2024 BMW X7 M60  [10.00]
Residual percentages have dropped significantly over the last few years. BMW was getting too many cars back that were way upside down. I keep a running spreadsheet of lease calculations for cars that I am seriously considering. In 2019 the residual for an M5 as 61% (guessing that was for 10k miles per year). Currently they are in the mid to low 50s. So that is having an impact on the monthly payment as well.

It almost seems like it might be a better deal to just pick up a better deal on a CPO? I currently drive a 2018 M550.. so even a 2019 would be a big upgrade…

If it were me, I'd try and wait it out. Things could change, pricing wise, in the next 6 months.

That is my plan.. I was actually toying with the idea of keeping my M550 as my daily and getting a 992..but the prices on those have gone up even worse than at my local BMW dealer… minimum dealer mark up on even a base 992 is $25k…and it gets worse as you move up the model range..I just can't bring myself to spend $125 for a stripper 992… I'd rather have a loaded m5…

Anyway.. my plan is to wait until early next year..but I'm researching now. My M550 is still plenty fun… i just want more. 😈

If the M550 is your DD, and you're looking for more, the M5C is the natural evolution. Having driven an M550 and having owned both a base pre-LCI, and now an LCI Comp, you won't regret it if that's the route you go.

I haven't seen the RV for the M5C in a while.

At the end of May I picked up an F97 to drive while I wait out my next allocation. I actually ended up looking at a X5MC that day - and was going to pull the trigger until he told me the RV was I think 51 or 52 percent. For whatever reason the RV on my F97 was I think 56.

I mean I get it - interest rates certainly aren't going down anytime soon. Just sucks - you could always count on a pretty good deal on leasing a BMW .

Yup, historically, BMW had the best lease deals on a dollar to dollar comparison when looking at Audi or Merc. With the looming recession (regardless of partisan definitions) it will be interesting to see if things change.

another way to consider is
your trade in now is worth more than it will be in 6 months. Used car prices will drift downward as deals on new cars improve.
I think if you can do some effort the best deal now might be
grab a 2022 M5 at some discount as 2023 cars are arriving and a bunch of them are unsold . Managers sooner than later will realize that 22 is a model year old and should discount it. Get a good trade in on you M550.
also finance the car rather than lease.
your biggest problem that few cars depreciate faster than M5 and one of them is the M550 . These in between model cars between base car 530/540 and M5 don't get a lot of love
so I think you are better off doing what I suggested either on a new or for that matter a used M5 as in 6 months the delta IMO will be bigger
