It makes me smile that BMW has a 2023 M5 and Mercedes does not have a 2022 or 2023 E63 AMG car for sale in the USA.

So angry that the B&W stereo wasn't available for the short window I had placed my order in. They had it for years, stopped for a few months when I ordered and now they are back. Ugh. Wish I could retrofit.

Well if it's any consolation, there were a lot of us who bought 22s that lost it during the build process. Moreover, there was no rhyme or reason why some 22s got delivered with it, and some without. Mine happened to be one of them that was delivered without. Another member here micvite had his on the same ship as me and had the B&W in his. (as it turns out - his car was damaged in transit, they wouldn't deliver it, built him ANOTHER car (even later in the year) and delivered B&W in that car too).

Meanwhile, I sold my 22, bought an X3MC (not really loving it) and just placed an order for a 23 F90 (with B&W of course).

Sorry to say it won't be any consolation lol b&w was never "unavailable" just removed from the public configurator you could always special order it. Apparently it just may have added delays (unknown amounts of time) and because people love bitching they decided hey unless you REALLY want this it doesn't exist. The only possible consolation would be retrofitting as speakers should be more or less plug and play. And just code it to change it from Harmon to b&w.

And I spoke to a few dealers about this but basically bmw didn't force anyone to remove it, they just said hey do you want your car when it's supposed to get there? Or do you want the stereo and we have no clue when you're getting the car. And of course most people picked getting the car for various reasons. My first car was delayed I wanna say 2 weeks for the b&w? And they rushed the heck out of the second one lol ordered December car was done January then sat at port for a boat for s bit and got here March.

This. I ordered my car early July 2021 when B&W was still available, had a production number in late July, and was assigned an initial build date in early August for late August production. Then the B&W supply issues hit and my car got pushed to early September. And then came the call to make a decision - keep the September build date or keep the B&W. I chose the B&W, and my build date got pushed back to November, and then pushed again to January 2022 when it was finally built.

Not entirely accurate for all people. If given the option to wait it out, I would have. But I was given that opportunity. The dealer didn’t even have the option to add it to my build. If I could have waited it out, it would have slipped into the 2023 model year and I could have had one of the first ones off the line. But then the cost would have been more as they bumped the price. So the total “investment” by me would have been an extra 3 months wait and $10k over what I paid for a ‘22 with the HK.

Same here .. I was presented with the option to remove or wait. Like you, chose to wait it out and get the B&W.

Your dealer either didn't want to add it and risk you backing out or doesn't know how to do it, either way it was always possible. But on the other hand if you have a prod number for a 22 you could definitely argue you shouldn't pay 23 pricing. I'm actually curious how that ends up working lol. If you couldn't argue them down it would then depend whether 10k for the stereo on the window sticker is worth it. You can probably retrofit for like 6

I placed on order for 23’ back in March. B&W was not available together with trunk hand free opening. What a rip-off.

Sorry if I misled you. I’m not paying ‘23 prices for a ‘22. What I was saying is that I was so late in the ‘22 model year, if I passed on this one to wait for a ‘23, I’d obviously have to pay ‘23 prices in order to get it.

As for whether or not I could get it, my dealer (Sales Manager) tried everything to include calling his “contact” over in Germany. He even showed me previous orders where the could, what it looked like, and what it looked like for mine. It wasn’t there. That said, I believe very strongly that just like in all of life, there is a good ‘old boy network. My dealer just wasn’t in the know. But I’ll bet if Jay Leno wanted it, he would have gotten it.

I always thought there would not be an M5 for my 23 in prep for the new gen M5 in 24. Does this mean no M5 in 24 and new body in 25 with Comp coming in 26?
